Nice topic!
Peter V. wrote:I believe that 1979/1980 was the time that BMW made all kinds of combinations. So you could find E21 cars with the type 1 dashboard but with the type 2 mirrors or doorcards or a type 1 frontspoiler and type 2 backside etc etc. It was just to empty the warehouse of al the type 1 parts.
Indeed there were some mix-ups then. I have a facelift (produced in september 1979), but the color is from a type 1.. I guess they had some paint left over

My car is quite original, but it is lowered, has non-original Recaros and chrome valvecover and strut bars front and rear. There's also a few Alpina bits which draws away from originality in the purest sense of the word.

My poor Baur has been in the shadow of a 1966 1600-2 that i needed to get ready for the 2016 season (50 years) and the Bavaria Tour 2016. The Baur has been on register all the time and driven in the summer, but the tidy up, did come to pause. Have been collecting parts all along, and she will be reciving some TLC this coming spring.

Now my question: Does anyone have a late-78/early-79 euro spec 323i with original chrome side mirrors from when the car was new? Could anyone take a photo of the manufacture stamp on the rear of the mirror and share with us? (My Baur is january -79 build)

My car was once modified to black corner mounted, and i want to return to door mounted. There is an array of different types of mirrors, some clearly aftermarked. I want the real thing e_ugeek

Early 1979 is type 1, so mirrors on the doorpanel, chrome. Handajustable, or the expensive electric ones, those are bigger. I like to see some pics of your baur!

The mirrors I am considering is the manual chrome door mounted (pre facelift). As i am trying, on a long term, to bring my car closer to original i have collected little "bits and bobs" that I Hope to get done this year.

Here is the car, little has changed the last few years:
