Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
There is left/right play (1-1.5cm) in my wiper assembly including the motor and the wipers.
Is the motor supposed to be bolted tight to the frame although I do see anywhere that it is attached?
Is it possible that the nuts holding the wipers to the frame are not tightened enough?
All help appreciated.

Re: Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
Hi Peter,
the arms are connected by a square pipe, one side bolted, the other blind riveted. The motor is mounted on a plate welded to the pipe/rod. De actual turnmechanism is tightened with 1 central nut. There should be no play in the system.
here's mine after some refurbishing
The mechanism is only attached to the body by the two nuts under the wiper arms. The rubber screw on the motor is used to prevent vibrations and to get the motor in the right angle.

Re: Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
It could be that the rubber grommets that mount in the scuttle and that the spindles pass through have got damaged allowing the mechanism to move. If this is the case it's going to start making a mess of the paint around the hole so something to look into pretty quickly!

Re: Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
interesting! - I don't see any grommets in my setup.
Also noticed that there is alot of free play in each opening - sideways and front/back.
Will look into the grommet situation.
Many thanks, Peter

Re: Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
Wow - I went on REAL OEM and looked at the diagram and see that I am missing the bushing/grommet that would hold the unit tighter to the car.
Solved the issue. Will now have to figure out how to get these parts.
many thanks.

Real expensive at the dealer, much cheaper at walloth und nesch, but I don't trust the quality of their rubber products.

Re: Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
I discovered I have the same problem this weekend and couldn't figure out why there was movement/ play. Looking at my friends E21 I realised I was missing the rubber grommets that sit in the holes for the arms.
That should fix the play!

Re: Loose Windshield Wiper Assembly
Problem solved! My car was missing the grommets. As soon as they were installed, the loose play was gone. Thanks for your help. PeterCS
