footwell speakers
Re: footwell speakers
Keen to do the same. Not removed my covers yet to see what's underneath. I'm guessing they're just a standard size that can be replaced. Good to get spen thoughts form other members though.

Re: footwell speakers
stock size is 10x15cm or 4x6" I believe. I have some Magnat's in there I believe. The size is a limitation but I wanted to stick to original size so it can hide neatly behind the original grill. Same size for front footwell and parcel shelf but many upgrade the latter to a bigger size. Useless in my case as most of the time it is covered by a folded down softtop. A small sub underneath your seat might do some magic perhaps?

Yes, that is right. Stock size is 4x6". There is a pair of Pioneers 3-way speakers available in that size or in 5x7". Search for them. They fit hardly under the stock cover, but it works.
What I also had in my e30 was a two-way compo system by Hertz. Excellent sound with separated highs. Just mounted them to the mirror triangles. The lows were located under the stock covers.
For the basses, I can recommend an active sub. I am using a Blaupunkt gt in the trunk of my e21. Sounds great, just for bass support, it is small and you don't see it in the interior.

Re: footwell speakers
there is a trick also with the coaxial speakers to move the tweeters on a higher position. Mostly the center piece is removable, some soldering and longer wires and you can hide the tweeters in the upper part of the dash.
Re: footwell speakers
What is the max depth for the 4x6 speakers that fit under the stock cover?

Re: footwell speakers
Depends on wether you have a original sunroof or not. The drainhose from the roof runs behind the speaker.
The original speakers are a tight fit, in case the hose is in place.

Re: footwell speakers
I've recently fitted Alpine SXE-4625S (Type E) in the front foot well of my E21.
4x6" 150 W
Fit in the stock position under the original speaker covers.
Not tested them in the car but tested them on the radio in the garage and there's a noticeable difference between these and the stock speakers
They're roughly £30 on ebay but I got mine from Road Radio for £35 (easier to return if they didn't fit but they did)
