323i Which Thermostat

Post by e21Keith »

From my experience of buying thermostats for my various e30s (of which I had over 35) I discovered that the only way to get a good thermostat capable of reliable keeping the engine at the correct temperature was to buy it from the main dealer.

Please tell me what's the recommendation for getting a decent thermostat?

Even the dealer had some bad series. Just fitted Behr Hella. Not sure if that's still OEM but I wouldn't be surprised.

Just ordered a Behr from Amazon, it was under £4.00!

Looks like it was too good to be true!

The thermostat arrived today but the Febi logo has been ground off, looks like a fake to me! I'm amazed because the order was fulfilled by Amazon. They have now withdrawn the item while they investigate.

I sent photos of the thermostat to Febi and they tell me that it is a genuine Febi part. This doesn't explain why manufacturers markings have been deliberately removed from the item and there is no Febi branding anywhere on the part.
The only conclusion I can come to is that it was manufactured by someone else and Febi deliberately removed the name of the original manufacturer before putting it in a Febi box.
So I bought a Febi thermostat which isn't a Febi thermostat and I don't actually know who made it.
I'm ordering one from the BMW dealer, lets see what they supply?
