Steering Rack Seals

Post by e21paddy »

Hi all,

I recently got my steering rack reconditioned, and when I reinstalled the rack, after a short drive it was heavily leaking.

I rang the company again and they said they would take it back and investigate. On investigation, they saw that the seal ring had slipped and that they would reinstall reinforced ones to prevent this from happening. Does this sound right? Are they just giving me the run-around? They said the seals aren't reinforced as standard?

The reason I ask is that the reinforced seals apparently have a lead time of 3 weeks, meanwhile, the car is on a lift in my mechanics!

Agreed. Probably they didn't replace them the 1st time.

Not good.

What is the UK price for getting this reconditioning done? I paid 300 euros, and didn't even receive metal clamps on the rubber boots, I got cable ties!
