Fast forward to May 8th 2011
I took out the complete interior exept for the dash. So out with the seats, rooflining, carpet and doorcards. As far as I can see right now:
- Solid wheelhouses at the rear
- Solid floor, except for one spot in the front
- Two cover sills, just welded over the rust :hammer
- Lots of bad repairs, some still just zinc sprayed :hammer
- Bad paintjob and restoration, I even found some masking tape painted Polaris :hammer
- Even the vinyl A style covers have been painted :hammer :hammer
- Insolation carpet is wet due to the hole in the floor
- Massive loads of glue is used to put the insolation in
- The carpet has decolored
- I will cut off a perfectly good roof!

E21 without windows or interior:

Image

Rear at the right

Image

Radio, wit hall kinds of aftermarket alarm wiring and some wood?!?

Image

Screwed up wiring harnass

Image

Fainted carpet

Image

Left rear panel, insolation made to hot…

Image

Rear left, rust on the corner.

Image

Image

Repaired rustdamage, just in the zincspray, not even repaired correct.

Image

Cutting edge behind the coversill rusts like hell. Thinking of just cutting it all out.

Image

Beautifull roof: anyone?

Image

Front left side. I’m afraid of what underneath the insulation.

Image

Upperside of the jacksupport, all rotten!

Image

Very bad paint job. If you are a car painter and you work like this, then you have no honor in your job…

Image

Loads of parts:

Image

Image

Planning:
Take out Dashboard
Remove rear bumper
Remove boot
Remove lights
Stripdown boot
Remove wiring harnass
Clear engine bay
Take off exhaust and gearbox

And then we’ll see.

Very nice build , and i like the story! i really get into when i have to read stories well described. About the 2.7 conversion , what do u need exactly to take the engine to 2.7? if u can tell me would be nice because i might plan on doing it! thank you and keep updates coming :D

Thanks! Lots more to come!

There are more ways to get an 2.7 conversieon, depending on what base you use. Mine is an b25, and I use the crank, rods and pistons from a B27 6K B block, so the 129bhp ETA enigne. Just put those parts in the B25 and you habe a 2.7i. Much more detailed explained here

Took off the gearbox with driveshaft still attached

Image

The disc is all worn out and needs to be replaced.

Image

After taking of the driveshaft, the exhaust could be removed. And thet the fueltanks. I’ve just cutoff the lines.

Conclusions for the day:
- Rear wheelarches are repaired and already rotten again
- Nice old dent in the right sill
- supportbeam left is severly damaged and probably needs replacing.
- hardydisc is shot
- supportbearing on driveshaft makes a lot of noise
- fuellines ar done for.
- dents in de the floor.

Work that needs tob e done soon: Take out the dash, powersteering, wiringharnass, wipers. And then the subframes and after that… hopefully she’ll be on the frame, so I can start on “rustoring” the bitch.

Some pic’s:

Dented outr sill ):

Two fuellines, one brake line, one dent

Stuff from the boot

BMW getrag M60 gearbox, in this case a doglegbox.

Labeling in progress

And for now the last pic.

June 17th 2011, today I took out the das hand the complete wiringharnass. And other exploring trip back into 33 years of just f*** up an e21.
Dash was easy to remove. This one is full of cracks, but a “new” one is waiting.

Lots of wires

Image

Dash removed, As it turns out, half of the wires dont belong in this wiring harnas. I see some wrong attached spreakerwires, some old alarm wires and a bunch of what ever the are wires. Some justed taped in, some with cable connetors and some soldered in. It’s a freakin’ mess!

Image

And what do you get if you don’t kow electrics and just start fiddling aroud? You almost torch the damn car! Look and see whats underneed the fusebox.

Image

Wiring out, heater out.

Image

Tomorrow, the breaksystem and steeringcolumn will be taken out.

Image

And here are the results from the floorpanel jury. RUSTED AND ROTTEN! Zero points.

I'd be interested in the roof, but you are soooo far away.
Any ideas on european delivery on a roof like that?

Some nice thorough work going on here :thumbsup
