Last of that day was the gear stick. The bushings on the lower side are worn bad. I will fit brass bushings.

This is the other side, where the bushings are placed already.

I had a shitload of little chores to do, but all together pretty important for finishing the car.

To start with the drive shaft. Took the center bearing off.

Image

After that I drained the gearbox oil. The magnetic plug holds a fair bit of metal. So a change is good, maybe some new synchromeshrings in the future.

Image

The oil it selve is clear enough.

Image

Changed the oil and fitted net bearinga for the shifterplate.

Image

Fitted the plate.

The Alpinas needed refubishing. So I took.them to a specialized company to straigthen them, get old paint of and have them powdercoated. 7j's had some corrosion, that has been taken care of.

Got the cooper nuts for the exhaust manifolds.

When all that was done I could start building the engine.

Image

Threaded ends gone in, valve cover put on.

Image

And this is the sandwich plate that contains a temperature sensor and e pressure sensor. They feed the gauges I build into the center console. The plate goes in between the filter and block.

Image

Intake manifolds on.

Image

And on the other side the cranckcase ventilationtupe and motormounts installed.

But then I wanted to take the valve cover off, just to tighten the threaded ends. But, oh crap, it wouldn't come off. I found out that this is a e30 or e28 cover. The metal in the middle, ridges, have no use on a e21. On a e30 and e28 this is where the intake manifold is bolted on.

So, crap. Wrong valve cover. But it is the same one as I have om my e30 325iA cabrio, so eventually it will go on there. But what to do with this engine... So I went through my stock and found one ugly and very dirty with grease, oil, old paint and who knows what on it. So I washed it, cleaned and painted it. When that was sorted, I fitted the covers on the timing belt.

Image

Heathshields placed on the exhaust manifolds.

Image

Image

And this gives us a fairly complete engine.
