'79 320/6 'Bullion mobile'

Post by sumnide »

Hi,
I'm Roger and in about 2004 I bought a BMW for £100 out a local ad, because a mate bet me I wouldnt.
Turned out it was an E21, and neither me or any of my pals new much about them!
Funny how they have only just started coming back into fashion!
I began to work on the car, changing big end shells, front discs/pads/calipers, before then changing jobs, loosing interest, having a family and parked the car up for 4 yrs!

I have now regained some enthusiasm, and we are nearly at MOT stage.
My Car came as;
1979 320/6
Cashmier Gold (mostly) aka bullion mobile, aka goldmember
4 spd manual
No sunroof
85k miles
Pretty solid underneath
Weber Carb
Very tasteless Peco BB4, looks gash sounds lush

I have since fitted;
Spax -60mm Springs
Koni adjustable rear shocks
Fully refurbed 15'' E30 sport alloys with spacers
195/45/15 tyres
treated rusted B pillars, small hole in sill and rear arches behind back seats

I am going to (eventually);
Fit new front shocks (bought some gas ones on ebay-too wide diameter, wont fit in bottom tube, are these 323i?)
Fit the good s/hand headlights I got recently
Paint the car in original colour
New stainless exhaust
Fit my centrecaps
Fit an oldschool steering wheel I aqquired
Fit the black / silver number plates I bought 5 years ago
Get a bit more power, maybe a 5spd box too.

Lets see if I can attach a recent pic....

I'm not really one for E30 wheels on an E21, but this one looks pretty nice! I like the stance overall. Exhaust doesn't look too bad at all. Good luck with the resto

You think the mudflaps will cause an arguement,
I've got a mint desmo roof rack as well :)

There is a reason for the e30 rims, I used to own a mint e30 cabrio that ended up
On 17" alpinas. The car is gone but I kept the wheels. I think they are ok for the minute.

I just lifted the range rover 2", and dropped the e21, I like the way the BMW roof line is level with
The bottom of my range rover windows :) childish

actually its jewish gold! lol.... (sorry on going forum joke)

liking that looks ace.

yeah 323i shocks are wider diameter than the 320/6 and the miserable 4 pots..... why not buy some 323i legs (with the front brakes still attached!)?

welcome in! anything your not sure of, ask away!

Right shock problem hopefully sorted, got a forum member with the opposite problem willing to swap.

Not got the space or time to do a 325 engine swap, whats the best way to get a bit more beans out the 320/6?
What about a 325i head on the 320 block? Lumpy cam? Should work OK with the replacement weber I have?
Anyone swapped 4spd to 5 on one of these? Is it worth bothering with? Will it give better acceleration or mostly top end?
I know everyone will prob say just stick a 325 motor in on injection but to be honest I stuggle to keep the shit in a straight line anyway. Too much cowshit on the roads here....

the weber carb conversions always work well.... mostly cus the solex carb is utter shit as it goes wrong often and is expensive to buy bits for and fiddly to work on.
why not put injection from a 320i e30 on it?
unless you find yourself on motorways often or cruise above 60 then you'll not really feel the benefit of a 5 speed.

It's an idea with the 320i injection, but if I'm gonna bother with that I just
As well rebuild a 325 and stick the whole lot in.

I dunno, I don't care too much for originality but there are no other e21s around here and I just kinda like the idea of keeping the 2.0 block and the carb seemed quite new when I got It, I like being a bit different and some old school tinkering appeals rather than a transplant. I would rather a 2.0 carb suprise some people than 'no wonder, it's got a 325i in it' if you know what I mean?

Will a 325 head fit my 2.0 bottom end? Wouldnt mind doing some work on a spare head and trying it on there.
Get the carb tuned, stick a 6 branch on it, ought to make the right noises?!
