After some time of hibernation, I did a round of maintenance on the old lady including new fuel injectors and TB sync. Some cleaning and polishing and... she's ready to be put up for sale. It's been a tough decision I took years to take, but after 17 years of ownership it is time for something new, something different, even though I haven't decided what exactly haha!

You sell parts? What does engine cost?

Hahahaha!

Took a few outside shots last weekend, and went to the Dutch E30 Summermeet... to find another salmon 4 door 320iS! Mine on the left of the bottom photo. Pity I didn't see the owner of the other iS.

This week... fresh MOT (APK), some driving, dam, every time you drive the car it is so much fun. To sell or not to sell, that's the question haha

Still a very nice and clean example.

I had the same doubt .. to sell or not to sell.

A z3 m coupe could ease the pain of saying goodbye to the 320is :D

Thanks buddy! Still is an amazing car, and driving it reminds me of all the work that I've put in it over the past 17 years, handles so well. Something like Z3M or E46 M3 is on my mind as a future car, but so many options... IF the car sells then its successor should be a real drivers' car again. Not too big or heavy which rules out the E60 M5 despite of its amazing V10 howl, no I currently think it will not be in the 5-6-7 series ranges, more like Z3-Z4 or 3-series.

But we'll see, I am not at all planning to make the 320iS a bargain, I know very well how good it is and how much time and money was spent, anyone who thinks it is too expensive is advised to move on, and if it doesn't sell I might take the car for a holiday trip to Italy next summer!

I drew up a detailed story about the car, why not share it here as well. Only for those with time to spare haha

Very caring owner for 17 years (!!) now offers this special package of an extremely well kept rare model with an exceptional options list and a load of sensible modifications.

Model history
The 320iS was invented as a ‘tax dodger’ to provide a solution for the high taxes that Italy and Portugal imposed on cars with displacements over 2 litres thus this model was only available in those two countries, that also explains why they are so rare. BMW put M3 technology (engine and driveline) with a slightly decreased displacement in a regular chassis. Only 1.205 made as 4-door!
The decrease in displacement was compensated, the car’s output only dipped from 195 to 192 BHP! Due to a lighter chassis and a shorter diff the 320iS is faster than the M3! Significantly faster from zero to 200kmh!

This car’s history
The past 17 years I have owned this car, as part of my collection it was not just maintained, it was cherished and loads of preventive maintenance was performed from day 1 to preserve the car as good as possible. I am the 3rd owner and all history of the car is recorded and demonstrable from new, including the original maintenance booklet and a huge file with invoices, work orders, appraisal reports et cetera. Over the years I have also gathered as much as possible documentation on the car including all the 320iS specific documentation I could lay my hands on, and of course all the manuals including the extremely rare 320iS and M3 additional booklets.
Paint color: 203 lachssilber metallic (salmon silver)
Interior cloth: 0269 Anthrazit
Mileage: 210.458 kms
Production date: 25-2-1988
Date of first registration: 8-6-1988
APK/MOT valid until: 28-8-2021

Condition
The condition of the car is impressive. The outside, underside, interior and engine bay all are very clean. The car is absolutely rust free, everything functions as it should, no defects, niggles or rattles. In the trunk you find the original storage facility, a complete and as new tool kit including the rare S14 spark plug tool, and also a load of S14 specific spare parts like a Motronic DME, an air flow meter and sensors. The engine starts and runs perfectly smooth, timing chain is quiet from the first start.

Options
A/C yes, air conditioning and still stone cold
5-speed dogleg sports gearbox
Power sunroof
4 power windows
BMW Bavaria radio/cd and BMW Sound System
BMW sports seats in grey cloth in the front
Limited slip differential 25%
15” BMW-BBS alloys in perfect condition
Rear seat with load-through hatch, transport sack
Rear central armrest and rear headrests (headrests currently removed but with the car)
ABS
Power steering on M3 quick rack
Central locking
Fire extinguisher attached to drivers’ seat
M dead pedal
Rear sun blind
Rear deck spoiler
‘iS’ deep front spoiler
Front foglights
Oil temperature gauge inside rev counter
OEM grey velours floor mats

Modifications
Over the years the car has undergone multiple modifications to further enhance the driving fun, but every modification can be turned back to the original situation without any issues and all original parts are still with the car. Some of the modifications done:
Uprated suspension with Eibach Pro Kit springs and Bilstein Sprint shock absorbers
Eibach Anti Roll Kit adjustable sway bars front and rear
Increased oil pan baffle
Solid eccentric M3 front trailing arm bushes
Reinforced gearbox bushings
E30 M3 quick steering rack
Reinforced and powder coated front subframe
1-piece dual tube model aluminum front strut brace
Sport Evo high flow lower air box
Carbon fiber airbox (combined with stock AFM for decent intake note)
Steel braided brake hoses
Brake pads Ferodo DS2500

Maintenance
The car was always maintained meticulously using only OEM (or better) components. Many years the car has run on Castrol TWS 10W60 and several years ago I switched to Mobil1 Extended Life 10W60 because of the decreasing ZDDP level in Castrol oils. Current tires are the wonderful Toyo R1-R. As a preventive measure the conrod bearings were replaced at KM 190.000. The ones I took out only showed very limited wear, no damages, and these were still the factory original ones. Can’t get better proof that the car was cared for, saw regular oil changes and was warmed up carefully!
Recent maintenance includes a compression check, new fuel injectors (OEM Bosch), new spark plugs (OEM Bosch), a vacuum sync, oilservice and inspection. There is a detailed maintenance documentation including actions and checks performed, materials used, invoices, work orders and more.

Optionally I can provide a specific E30 Big Brake Kit from 300mm.de based on Porsche Cayman calipers and including 300mm brake discs, ready to fit!

Thank you very much! Well I've been thinking about putting the car up for sale for several years, I thought I'd give it a try and see what happens. Otherwise it will be my transportation to my vacation in Italy next year!

Well, as some of you already found out, this chapter now is past tense. After 18 years of ownership and great times, the car was sold and will start a new phase of its life in Germany. It has always been a joy to own the car, to drive it all across Europe and to work on it to maintain and improve it. All these memories will remain for a lifetime, I'm sure!
