some pics of engine bay cleaning progress. pretty sure I have the stock tach wired up now too, I'll have to wait till the engine has a fuel supply to be sure though.

did someone leave a sandwich in my rain tray?

nope, false alarm:

the only part that really bothers me, besides the factory fuse/relay box

I think I'm just going to make a cover that bolts over that ugliness.

not sure if I'm going to re-locate the factory fuse/relay box, it would be kind of a pain in the ass. it's going to have the primered in progress look under the hood until I feel like pulling the engine... who knows if/when that will happen.

Nice. Any new insights regarding the slight driveline mishap? Any progress on fixing the damage?

yea, pretty sure the drive line just kinked itself because it was too heavy and out of balance, I feel bad for running such a dangerous thing for so long. I have a drive line adapter being machined that will allow me to run FB (1st gen RX7) drive line ends on both ends of the drive line while still using the BMW differential. That way a drive line shop can make me a legit drive line, not looking forward to paying for it, but I look forward to safely driving this car.

I have a fuel cell on the way, it's been on back order all month, I expect it by the 28th, if i don't see it, Summit racing is going to hear from me.

The fuel cell is why I needed the new fuel gauge, the sending unit in the fuel cell won't work with the E21 fuel gauge.

I also need 4 new tires... I only got one summer out of my current tires thanks to this incident. :( it happens.

the drive line adapter is near completion:

I've just got to get it on a lathe and make room for it to clear the pinion on the BMW side of things. the Mazda side is perfect though. Also, it needs some counter sinks and some bolts. Just wanted to show what it was so far since many of you were probably curious about how the drive line was going to be legit. I was fortunate enough to have a fellow member of my car club design this for me, but I had to pay a premium for the machine work... worth it to not have my car loose control like that again though.

completed drive line adapter:

the sub frame was going to be a problem, so I notched it:

fuel cell:

the fuel lines are routed through the factory tube in the car that the factory vent hoses went though, it's a straight shot to the send and return line here. Very convenient.
Image

drive line: it had to be upsized from the 2.5" tube an RX 7 would run to a 3" tube because of the length so it wouldn't whip and kink like the old one did. it has some kind of dodge slip yoke at the front which fits into the RX7 trans perfectly, at the back is an RX7 yoke, but there is a machined sleeve to make it fit the 3" tube.

I wired up the factory tach, it will do 8k with no trouble at all.

To make a very long story short, the fuel cell (which is now for sale) didn't work out for this application, so I made one. it works great.

thanks, I've had it at a drag strip, but I've never driven it on a drag strip. I've also never dyno'd it. On rx7club.com, there is a thread about Dyno results. people with pretty much the same mods as me with the same engine are getting around 130 HP at the rear wheels. I figure I'm somewhere around that, maybe a tadd less since my rear wheels are toed in so bad.
