Picture report, Oldtimer GP 2011 @Nurburgring

Postby Jeroen » Mon Aug 15, 2011 7:53 am

After a wonderful, display in 2010 here's 2011's pictures part 1. Historic Grand Prix cars until 1961.

A class with many special and valuable cars, but gladly that didn't take the sting out of things and especially up front there was some close racing going on. Towards the end of the race the top 4 was still close to each other. Results (Saturday):
1. Ferrari 246 Dino
2. Maserati 250F
3. Aston Martin DBR4
4. Gordini 16

Also see a few short vids at the bottom of this post (yeah amateur camerawork but then at least you have the right sound with these pics!)

Nice, bling with exhaust particles!

Close racing indeed

Wonderful Belgian Cooper that performed only average in the dry, but Sunday in the rain it was way up front

Impressions from the paddock

Image

Image

Car up front is a Group 5 M1 turbo

Image

Can't really tell it's a M1 from this angle anymore, but you can clearly see how literally they took the concept of bolting on a tuba!

Image

The Alte Fahrerlager or old paddock, almost untouched since the track was opened in the 1920's, celebrated a small restore as well as 75 years of BMW's 328 resulting in a lot of 328's being present!

Image

Image

BMW turned up with some unique cars as well, anyone have more info on the racecar without the kidney front?

Cute parc fermé at the same time, hence all the spectators

Thanks. Finally, the DRM class and one pic of the start of the Youngtimer class. Training of the DRM's:

Klaus Ludwig did experience some technical difficulties making it impossible for him to perform with his 935 like last year

Image

Now that's what we're here for?

Start of race 1 of the Youngtimer class

DRM, 1st race

Some light rain at the end of the day turned the race in a sweet ballet of cars

Looking for a worthy way to close this years' OGP report... found it!

Definitely worth a visit and you may need all 3 days to see everything, Le Mans Classic is even better but that's a longer drive I guess...

Ran into Charles Veillard, driver of the Group 5 Eddie Cheever E21 at the 2012 OGP. Was selecting a few photos for him and ran into a few from 2011 worth sharing here as well! So after over a year, here's 2 more shots...
