Spa 6 Hours races 2012

Post by Jeroen »

Stopped by at the legendary Spa Francorchamps track in Belgium last weekend (my all time favorite track) for the Spa Six Hours race festival. Here's a start on the photos... kicking off with a few snaps from the Historic Motor Racing News U2TC class

Over to the historic F1 cars, already saw a lot of Lotus stuff in the pitlane area...

But in action is much more fun! Williams FW07 as driven back then by Alan Jones,
Carlos Reutemann, Keke Rosberg and Mario Andretti in 1981 and 1982

Image

Nice bunch with up front the Benetton Tyrrell 012 (1983) of Michele Alboreto and Danny Sullivan

Image

Ligier JS21 (1983, left) of Jean-Pierre Jarier and Raul Boesel

Image

March 711 (1971) ex Ronnie Petterson and Henri Pescarolo

Image

JPS Lotus 92/5 (1983) ex Nigel Mansell / Elio de Angelis

More to come!

Surprised you haven't mentioned the huge pileup

in the 1 hour master's race (maybe differnt weekend?):

here's the damage to Butch's sister car- "Big Blue":
Image
Herewith Race Report:
"Following our trip to Spa, Butch has lost the sympathy vote! His dent is a mere flesh wound compared to what poor old Big Blue has just been through! There was an eleven car accident caused by a Jaguar engine blowing up and the whole contents of the oil tank coating the track. NO oil flags were put out! Only Big Blue limped home under his own steam; the rest had to wait for the trailer.
Masters Top Hat Race, 7 minutes from end of 60 minute race.
Chris Scragg’s Jag XJ12 Coupe blew its engine and took out the oil tank. He ended up in the gravel trap.
Oil coated the track like a sea. No oil flags were put out.
38 seconds later, the pack comes round the corner fighting hard and carnage! The Camaro hit the Jag broadside in the gravel.
Eleven cars in total seriously damaged, only the Camaro drove back to the pits. An Aston Martin DB6 completely destroyed. Fortunately no one seriously hurt.
We had just taken a late pit stop and had completed one full lap and were on the second when it happened. So on countback we came away with second overall.
Will be interesting to see what Autosport has to say this week"

Oh Dear! Just shows how strong the Camaro is! they were insured and you can buy a new shell for $13k to reshell the car
The Aston costs £300,000 to reshell before work starts!!

I believe that happened on Sunday and I was only there on Sat. But that's not something you'd want to witness!

Great pictures and great cars! Thanks for sharing.

This Porsche looks funny. Could this man not find some larger lights to fill the gaps

Thanks. The owner of the Porsche didn't want to go great lengths just to have some extra light for one night race, the lights are already out again...
