Must have been hard on the damp road. And don't you feel like the car's gearbox ratio's aren't really suitable for a relatively slow hillclimb like this? Or would it be ok in 2nd at slightly higher speeds like on a dry road?

There is also a fair bit of self preservation going on in my mind! Not just the value of Herman as being one of only 2 in British Isles but also the track conditions!
After a mini hit the wall in first damp practice and even the legendary Whizzo managed to hit the bank on his first timed run in the Renault - I had to drive 140 miles after the event to catch the Seacat back to IOM

OK so I don't mind being called a Wuss- but better that than crunching Herman -and missing the ferry etc!!!

Fully agree on that, better not damage the car! Just thought with the long 1st gear on the B6 you might have been a bit low in revs on 2nd. On a dry road a shorter diff could be of help. But hey its not a track car!

Thx for posting the pix - since my Flykr a/c is misbehaving!

guy with the TCB Racing hat is Barry Whizzo Williams who had a v hot sequential Clio 172- hit the wall at pardon on 1 timed run! Guy running the Veyron demos was Andy Wallace (Le Mans winner etc)!

Venturi MVS looked lovely especially the E21 rear lights?

Andy Wallace does ring a bell lol, and the MVS used E21 tail lights indeed! See this topic as well: http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21983

One of my favourite cars there was the ratty old DB5 which really had been raced and hillclimbed all its life and was pretty scruffy

that was until he set off!

Noted the flared wheelarches and good rubber Avons I remember

The guy competing in an E36 in our class (soundly beaten by Herman ahem!) also has a DB5- he too has owned it for years mid 70's but says he can't do competitions in it anymore as it is insured for £360k!

Becoming too expensive. Spoke to a Dutch 507 owner, he used to do like classic car rallies and all but his insurance won't let him anymore haha
