Oil filter

Post by JokerCooper »

Hi guys,

Sorry for the daft question but I’ve bought a new oil filter from W&N. Do I need to add oil into the new one or is a simply replace new for old?

Thanks
David

1. Doesn't matter if it is a W&N filter or from a different supplier.
2. I take it you don't only change the filter but the oil aswell? There is no point in just changing the filter.
3. If you change the oilfilter, you just need to add some more oil, that with an oilchange without changing the filter. The new filter will take up some oil. You don't need to fill the new filter before mounting.

Always worth rubbing a bit of oil around the oil filter seal before fitting, helps it seal better.

Once fitted and oil level refilled, the filter will fill with oil on the first start.
Can take a 5-10 seconds for the oil light to go out then you know it has filled.

You should then switch off and wait 5-10 mins for the oil to settle and top back up again to the mark.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advise. I was only planning on changing the filter but I thing I'll drain the system and do it properly.

Thanks again
David.

Thanks uwbuurman. I saw your comment on another post recommending Castrol GTX 15w40. Planning on doing the oil change on Saturday, weather permitting of course :)
