You can see that the under dash panel does not fit perfectly, when I find time I will remove it to show you the steering column

I am also drooling to tell you the truth, as car now is again at the mechanic and I am again not driving it, he has to finish a couple jobs still left, but I hope this time I will have it ready this week.
Jobs left to do (he did not finish them as he left again for a rally) :
1) Rear quarter windows (removal of old rubbers, replacement by new ones, replacement of opening and closing handles screws etc)
2) New steering wheel (Alpina momo 4 spoke from Walloth und Nesch-oh you are going to see some photos here for sure)
3)Now this one is an interesting technical small issue: It seems that the hot spark ignition system is on its way out and good old points are on their way in again. Anyway the ignition is powered by the msd now, so the distributor is just used for command, which means that the hot spark makes no difference theoretically. Now some stalling issues at high speeds especially, make us think that something is not working perfectly, probably with the hot spark. So we decided to see what will happen if we put again the points. Might be there is some conflict between msd and hot spark? Anyway before the msd, the hot spark served me nicely (not meaning that the points did not)...

Also: car serviced, new bosch spark plugs, new points-roller and condenser replaced the hot spark, msd reset and weber carbs rejetted to match the points.
The above showed need for more fuel so this explains the new pump and fuel regulator I guess.
Indeed the car not stalling anywhere now. Engine is more alive and torquey from low to high rpm.

hahah works never stop Jeroen.
Here are a couple of works I have in mind
I guess I may listen to all of the people (including you) suggesting that a 3.64 diff would match the car more than the 3.45 (even though there is a dogleg gearbox with close ratio and 1:1 direct 5th) and in one or two years I might be looking for one again.
And then I will consider an interior refreshment (interior is still in decent condition, however it's been reupholstered about 22 years ago-1997)
However, the above are to be done after 1-2 years, not for now.
For the next months I think I will try to settle down just for a while (of course if nothing urgently happens), and try to find some time to 1) enjoy the car and 2) see if there is something else needed
No 2. depends strongly on no.1, as it is obvious.
No 1 is the problem. I would love to take the car to a couple of roadtrips, if time can be found, to the beautiful Greek mountains, or take part to a well organized rally, some nicely organized ones take place every year in various parts of Greece. But due to family with a baby, I am afraid it won't be easy at least for a couple of years more

As for diffs, it's either either one size shorter or a CR dogleg, I wouldn't do both on a street car, that will make it too short and you will not have the long haul gears anymore

Indeed, exactly as you said.

Well, I would definitely fit a 4.1 if I had the Eco 5 gearbox, I wouldn't even consider the 3.91 if that were the case.
But, now with the dogleg (CR) I haven't decided if I should go with the 3.45 or a 3.64, which would you choose for a street car?

You now have a 3.91 fitted? Usually it is a good test to see how the car behaves after switching up a gear, especially from 2nd to 3rd. If you really feel that you are losing pace after switching, it may be good to go one size shorter. But with the CR box you already made the gap between the gears smaller, so you may not suffer of too many losses at all. In that case you could end up making the final drive too short which will only result in having to switch gears way too much to stay in your rev 'sweet spot'.

On my 323i I have the eco 5-speed and initially I had the stock 3.45. During more sporty driving I often stayed in 2nd gear, especially going uphill, otherwise I would really loose my pace. That is a gap that is now closed by going one step shorter with a 3.64 without jumping to way too many motorway revs, making my gears too short or loosing a lot of top speed.

Did you replace your speedometer in order to match the 3.64?
Because I also have a speedo for 3.45 and it is correct now, which means that, switching to 3.64 it will show about 6% higher speeds

Then I would definitely consider going to -at least- 3.64. 3.45 is too long. And yes, then you need to switch to a 320/6 speedometer to compensate.

And, how easy is it to find the 320/6 speedo? -in VG condition!

I can't tell how your setup works and feels at the moment, you should be the judge of that, especially of how the gears currently make for a steady acceleration. But from a distance I'd say 3.64.
