Re: Hennarot 316 - 1983 - M10 1.8 Twin 40
I've found some E21 pattern rads for £90 on ebay. I'd like an uprated rad, just to dispel the possibility of any over heating (and i intend to lug a load of camping gear around in it next summer!).
Mark - that one you linked looks like it's for an E30, in which case it's too tall and the bonnet won't close, and the water feed is on the wrong side (I think we tried fitting an E30 M10 rad before Jim?). Do you know of any that are made for the E21?

I'm pretty sure the same supplier could get one?

Got a rad. Went with a standard one in the end (new, not used though!).
I've not updated this thread for a while. I've been driving a civic as my daily, and whilst comfortable and quiet it's so boring!
A couple of months ago me and Mal removed the old engine, and then Mal repainted the bay in Henna for me;
Me and Nas started the rebuild yesterday.
I got the car trucked up to Leeds and we started by prepping the engine bay and removing the old subframe, giving everything a good clean and fitting some bits to the new engine (fuel pump, weber carb). The old steering rack was also removed and given a clean, and will be fitted with new bushes.
These are the subframes that are going in;

Yep, bought recently in the for sale section. Nas kindly went to Scotland for them!

Other stuff we've (including Dom who has kindly done hours of work on the rear of the car, half of it upside down on a creeper!) managed in just four days;
- New drum brakes (inc. backing plates, cylinders, shoes, drums, springs, flexi hoses).
- Subframes front and rear installed into the car inc. newly bushed diff hanger and front ARB.
- Pair of fresh front legs with new top mounts.
- Steering rack refurbed with new bushes.
- Engine is now completely built up and in the car (engine rebuild included new pistons, valves, gaskets etc).
- Both manifolds shot and painted.
- Brake servo shot and painted with Hammerite.
- New washer bottle and clutch reservoir.
- New water pump/fuel pump/plugs/HT leads/dizzy etc. etc.
- Downpipe painted.
- All brake and clutch solid and copper pipes fabricated and installed with fresh brackets and unions.
- Fresh flexi hoses all round.
- All brackets/hardware either cleaned or powdercoated.
- Rewrapped loom.
- New radiator installed.
- All new vac and fuel hoses.
- Engine mounts replaced.
- Replaced input shaft seal on the gearbox because it was leaking.
- New clutch.
- Handbrake cables.
I've probably forgot some too..
Still to do;
- Battery relocation to boot.
- Install legs onto car.
- New front calipers and discs (tomorrow!).
- Plug in loom.
- Rewire headlights.

Some work, and some progress! Think the car will be ready for a test drive before they start polluting the roads with salt again?

Hopefully she will be running by tomorrow! However the BMW won't be my daily driver any longer - she will be stored in a garage over winter. I've been driving a very comfortable (but very boring!) Honda Civic lately and would rather that got covered in salt.

Already figured you wouldn't take it out daily anymore after all that work! Better this way!

Re: Hennarot 316 - 1983 - M10 1.8 Twin 40
Thanks. Lots of credit to Nas and Dom!
We worked on the front legs yesterday (wire brushed, painted, fitted -40mm spax kit, newish shocks and top mounts as the previous 60mm drop was too low for my liking) + new discs and calipers. I cleaned up and rewrapped the engine loom too. I also found a compatible distributor as the one on the engine was from an E30 and the plug on the side was not compatible.

Pretty pleased with this job... It's only taken about 4 days to replace everything. Its going to be such a pleasant steer with all new running gear and a recon engine.
Good pics as well. Good job you didn't put me in charge of that!

I don't suppose the 60mm kit is available is it.....it's just what I'm looking for....
