Steve's 1982 316
Hi everyone,
So I finally thought I should introduce myself on the site. Had my 316 for the past few years now but haven’t really had much time for it with other projects and three young children .
But in the last year I have made room in my life for her and have started on some of the work that she needs, I hope to have her up and running with a M52 engine. I’ve met some of the forum members (all nice guys) and purchased some bits off others - such as pop out rear windows, glass, new stearing wheel, manual box and cut sump. I’ve also got some poly bushes for her, braded break lines, 323 brake set up, NOS front and rear lights, NOS wings and E30 sport leather interior…
Most of the rust has been chopped out of her and replaced with good metal. I’ve got pictures of the old rust sections but non now the work has been done… I’m not very good at taking pics
I relocated the battery to the boot as its a simple task...
Would love to have her on the road by next summer but we will see (Children )
Desperate for a set of coil overs - if anyone has any they would like to sell please get in contact with me. Or any advice of do’s and don'ts would be handy, I don’t have a good set of shocks on the car to be chopped so would I need additional parts???? What you see on the car on the final picture are a set from a old Golf and they didn’t work out

Hi Steve, welcome here and thanks for sharing some first views on the car... as many others, or any other period survivor.. some places are crunchy indeed. But the plans are good, all in good time... hope the car will turn into -above all- great fun!

Thanks for the warm welcome
Would anyone know if I brought GAS coil overs if they would be a direct fit to the car?
Will keep you all updated and hopefully when the car has a suspension again I will be able to get it out of the garage for some better pics.

Re: Steve's 1982 316
Well I had a spare few hours today so jumped into putting my recently purchased rear coilovers on
I'm really pleased with them as they still have plenty of adjustment left and there's no rebound problem, here she is with some 14" spare wheels I had from a old car. (Excuse the flat tyre)
Also, here is the before and after on the O/S inner door. I would like to say I welded it up but it was a friend

Re: Steve's 1982 316
Sooooo, got a little more done to the old girl…..
Got myself a sand blaster so blew the front end of the car and under the arches then added some fresh paint, on with the coil overs and the Willwoods. All Polly bushed up now too.
Now I’ve got the right tool for the job I’m going to go over the back end too.
Excuse the rusty brake pipe in the first pic (it wasn’t used anyway)

Ah, finally! Some nice work done! The adjustable strut top mounts look somewhat thin to me btw.

Thin = going lower
Can’t see that they will fail but will keep you all informed of how they do
Next job is engine out and auto to manual conversion
