Max's '82 320.......getting there!?

Post by max »

Hi,

I've just bought a e21 off ebay! Haven't even seen it in the metal yet! Its a nonrunner. Been off the road for five years. It looks ok in the pics, but I geuss I'll find out when I go to pick it up. I think it needs a bit of sill welding. My plan is to get it back on the road asap. I will also need to slam it before too long!! And get some nice wheels!! And maybe I'll sell my golf mk3 VR6 to fund the project?!

I'll post some pics up as soon as I pick it up. Fingers crossed its a good one! Wish me luck....

Max

thats exactly what i've got mate, and i can guarantee you before buying wheels you'll want to change the carb or replace the engine altogether with a 2.5i. good luck

It is bad having ebay on your phone!! I just reread the discription and its been off the road for 14 years! I'm picking it up on thurdays. Need to buy it a battery, and see if it will turn over. What should I change the carb to? I always wanted some webbers!! Triples?? And what is involved in fitted a 2.5i engine?

yeah some webers would be sweet, i almost went for triple webbers, but then mark offered me a 2.5i at a price i couldnt resist. try and find one thats already been in an E21 then it will just be a straight swap, all you need to do is change the fuel pump and put a fuel return in.

What about the 325i ECU, do you have to use that? My mates dad owns a scrap yard, which is very handy. I is already jealous of the e21, and says he has a 3.5 in the yard. Any info on fitted that?

Hi and welcome mate.

Yes, you'll need the 325's ecu & injection etc too.

The 3.5 will drop in and Jason323 has a pair of the mounts you'll need in the 'for sale' section.

Any photos of the car yet? We do love pics on here!

HaHa, Thats what I think too. What a birthday treat!

I'm looking into engine swaps now! Has anyone on here used the m42 1.8 16v lump? It seems like a powerful little motor, with 130bhp. Would be a shame not to have a 6 in there though!

M42 would be a nice swap imo. Add some lightness to the rest of the car and from what I've read recently a decent remap can coax a bit more power and get you nearer 150bhp.

What colour, year etc is your car?

I don't like the idea of going to less cylinders and displacement during a swap!

M20B25 For ease
M50/M52 for a challenge!
