Could be a real one..

Sadly no ribcord interior anymore, but nevertheless: not very expensive for the looks itselve!

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I'm no specialist when it comes to these, but a quick search resulted in the following unconfirmed facts:
- there was a limited production of the 'Motorsport' 535i E12 which basically was a 528i with the M30B35 engine from a 635CSi around 1979
- as of April 1980 the M535i was introduced with improvements made to suspension, brakes and mods to the appearance of the standard E12

So because this is a 1979 without the options this is likely to be one of these 'stock' 535i models. Only made in limited numbers which might make it special, but it's not very likely to be a M535i. But perhaps the vehicle's VIN will give more info.

Agree. Ive learned initially that you could order a m535i in full trim, and...incognito.
If this is one of the last, it still is very interesting, because of the same set up.
So, dogleg, lsd, springs..

Indeed Jeroen:
http://e12.de/palette/m/02650l20.htm
The VIN of the bmw e12 535i MOTORSPORT were all from the original car, 525 or 528.
''The models BMW M 530 Motorsport to M 535i Motorspor are not listed here, because they are only modified standard cars like BMW 525, 528 or 528i. These cars kept their original VIN. To recognize the Motorsport modification please have a look at its vehicledocuments - the Fahrzeugbrief. In this document you'll see, that the body number was added later with a typewriter. According to an unofficial source 895 vehicles were converted between 1974 and 1980:
1974: 35
1975: 85
1976: 132
1977: 120
1978: 126
1979: 243
1980: 154

The total of 1,410 M535i's is a well known number and this number is published in several books. Further information is documentated in this chapter. But this sum does not include the 240 CKD-M535i's (Series 2), which were assembled in South Africa. Starting from 1982 to 1985 BMW South Africa produced a M535i model (Series 3) themselves. These both cars should be mentioned for completeness, but for details please check the South Africa-chapter. Altogether there were 3,066 M535i-vehicles, which were built as BMW E12.''
