Got a little regulator so i can use them shitty disposable bottles ont welder now mate, so your more than welcome to use it for your cage if needs be

Looks like im gonna have to mate. The two mobile welders in wakey area aint mobile welders no more. The guy from work who used to repair motors cant do it for a month and taking it to a garage is out of the question so looks like im going to have to take a swing at it :roll:

I need similar work doing to mine, as i don't trust my welding i'm sticking it on a trailer and taking it down to Manchester where some clever people will repair it and paint the engine bay for less than £400 and at least then i know its been done right and £400 doesn't seem expensive to me.

Why can't it come out of your garage and i'm sure more mobile welders existing in your area, try the yellow pages...

Also i think you've made your point on the swearing, should really not rub people face in it. We all swear, i know i do, but time and place mate.

Jeez louise! It aint like im effin and jeffin. Thought you had to be over 17 to drive a car these days?? Anyways your right, there's not much reason to be swearing. As far as the welding goes ill see how my skills shape up. May have to do the same and get it on a trailer if that turns out to be a no-no. The reason i say its not an option to take it to a garage though is cuz its in a hundred bits with no engine in it. Its obviously do-able but just a real ball ache

Better to go to a little effort now rather than a load of effort further down the line i think. Only problem with the tailoring it is you'll need a mode of transport that can 'legally' pull the weight of the trailer and the car sat on top, and you'll need 4 ratchet straps - one for each wheel and a trailer of course that has a winch as you can't drive it on. That i suppose is a ball ache if you don't have access to that little lot, straps cost from £40-£60 and a trailer will cost you £20-£40 a day alone then you've got fuel costs on top and if you're using a 4x4 of sorts they aren't known for being frugal at the best of times but dragging a couple of tons behind itself does a profound thing to the already rubbish fuel consumption.

Fun and games though a - the joys of old motors! :D

well ive fitted the rack bushes. was a ball ache to do on the floor! (maybe im just spoiled with ramps at work all the time?)
fitted my new wheel bearing caps too and cleaned out the n/s bearing as that been missing its cap for over a month now.

also found out why its been driving funny knocking and pulling to one side..... the n/s lower arm ball joint and the o/s track rod end are both knackard.
i see them on ebay @ £38 + post. but do gsf still do these? ecp still list them on their website @ £61 but i dont have a trade acc. with them.

ordered an arm off ebay and some more poly stuff. guna poly the antiroll bar bushes on both sides.

ebay arms here, quality looks very good. a delphi part no less.
the track rod end ive had to get off ebay aswell as gsf no longer stock them! i had a go at dan who runs the sheffield branch about gsf dismissing older cars, think im guna write a strongly worded letter pointing out they still do parts for old vw beetles, 20 years older than e21's, and beetles are a pile of crap!

arm's fitted. ive made some polybushes to work in tandem with the antiroll/compliance bushes. look rather nice! and drives like it should..... really chuffed!
waiting on a track rod end now, its been dispatched!
then a quick tracking up.

track rod ends on, but need to check the tracking at work... was guna do it tonight but there was a dead transporter van on the mot ramp. :(
