front spoiler: Just for the looks or useful as well?

Post by petroscf »

I have always had this question in my mind: Will a front spoiler add to anything (from aerodynamics point of view) apart from a more sporty-aggressive look?
would it be of any help to roadholding or fuel economy etc.? And from what speeds and up would it be working etc.?

BBS did put numbers against both their front and rear spoilers.
From memeory these were both equivalent to 30% reduction in lift at an unspecified speed.
I'm sure someone will post the relevant images that show this. I know i've got them somewhere just not sure where right now!!

From experience my BBS front does give me more front end grip at high speed compared with no front spoiler at all.

Good to read this as I'm about to fit a BBS front as well.
But what high speeds are these? From how many miles and up do you have this better grip that you mention?

???????????
Really?
this is a not very high speed, if there is significant difference in 70mph(=113kmh), it seems the air dam is very useful!!!

my motorsport bumper replacement front spoiler saved me 5-6kg off the front end, worth it for that alone never mind possible aero....which i'm dubious about anyway.

I had a BBS but i couldn't bring myself to hang more weight off the car for looks.

i had a laguna splitter on the bottom of my bbs too. Being even lower to the road would have helped things for sure.

I heard that the rearspoiler ( Foha for example) gives you better stability on high speed straight on. The car is less nervous at the back.

I'm fitting a BBS spoiler to my 323iM50, just because all my front valances are either bent or rotten. I've actually cut away most of the front valance.
