Wobbly rear wheel and clunking noise

Post by arshad76 »

Hi guys,

Just had a rear wheel bearing replaced after some pretty bad sounding noises coming from there. I thought this was also the cause of a dangerously wobbly wheel with a lot of play, but apparently not. I also get a clunking noise on pulling away from the same place, does anyone know what this is pointing to?

And if so does anyone please, please know where I can get the correct part from, preferably in the U.K? I'm finding out this is becoming a huge problem for these cars :(

Well that was my first thought, except I saw them take out the old bearing to replace with the new one and it did stop the noisy bearing. Does something else need changing too?

Cluncking noise when pulling away could also mean a worn out drive shaft connection :?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Next challenge if this is the case, is it available anywhere? Anyone know a part number?

I have some drive shafts too.

I think you need to get your car into the hands of a competent mechanic to get it sorted. I was saying to jason on Friday that if I'd just taken my 635csi to the guy down the road who was going to weld it, paid his 10 hours labour, i'd have had a usable car for a year or two rather than it sitting in the workshop then being sold to Poland. Projects are great, but there's a lot to be said for just getting a pro on the case. Especially as this is your only car now.

If you want to buy a nice Audi A8 to drive around in for a bit while the E21 gets fixed, let me know!

Oh and I suspect trailing arm or subframe bushes, and check the diff mounting bush.

The Baur has almost finished wheel arches, fitted wings and will hopefully have a sorted out bonnet within the next week. I need a clutch kit, a motoronic rotor arm and the mystery cog thing that goes in place of the dizzy (anyone have a part number). Unfortunately I am working next weekend then my Wife is going to China on Business leaving me with the two kids for a week. If you fancy coming over and working on the Baur without me then you can come anytime, otherwise it'll be October.

On thinking about it you don't actually need me there, so maybe that's not a daft idea!

I've learnt the hard way this week. Been doing a bit of internet searching and have tracked down a mobile mechanic in South Manchester who's supposed to be an honest man. I'll let you know how I get on with him as long as I can get my car out of the garage from hell (actually it's not even a garage, just a lock up.)

I just sold my Audi and miss it dearly, but not the running costs, so as tempting as the A8 sounds!

Murrans hopefully going to come see me in a few weeks for a curry and to convert my motronic to 1.3, let me know if you fancy getting stuck into both Jim!

Is at an E30 clutch you need or E21? Have an E30 is all :)
