body number/chassis number

Is it possible from to find out the vin number of a e21 (normally on the right hand inner wing ) if you only have the body/chassis number from the left hand inner wing????

I believe not, but there's also a VIN tag on the crossmember that's covered by the dash. Requires removing the dash though.
