Welding costs?

Post by cdavie2002 »

Assuming the inner sills are solid, hom much would it cost to pay a a welder/fabricator to remove old sills and weld in new ones?

Any ideas as to the average cost and time to do this job?

id do it for £50-£60 a sill plus materials. but im not a pro welder!
remove front bumper, grills/indicators, front wings, strip seats and carpets out, rear quater door cards, remove any thing else likely to catch fire (tar sound deadening stuff). remove wheels on the side your doing.
cut out old sill, drill out spotwelds etc. weld in new sill... bit of filler work.... splash some paint on it.... then rebuild.....
6-7 hours a side id say.

as for a pro paint job youd have to sort that out yourself.

The car is stripped bare and ready to be cut n welded. I have sills.

Im looking to get it done locally, so i was just wondering how big a job it is, assuming all it needs is old sills off and new ones on with no work needed on inner sills.

Im quite surprised but not a lot of folk nearby will take on small restoration projects. I found someone to do it at £25ph. He drives and restores old cars, wasnt easy to find, no advertising!

Probably not a direct comparison, but I think I'm going to give the go ahead for having both my front floor sections cut out and replaced with new panels. £430 worst case scenario apparently including the cost of materials and rust proofing Dinitrol and Bilt Hamber.

Welder at £25 ph says it will take him 2/3 days to do sills and holes in boot, costing me £600. Sounds like a long time!

Spoke to someone new today, £350 - £400 for sills, forgot to mention boot.

There aint a lot of people in my area willing to take on welding projects!?
