Head off... Pistons OK?

Post by olly »

Hello!

I'm in the middle of a (very extended) head gasket replacement. Having finally gotten the top off I've found that the head gasket is in fact in pretty good shape, but the valves look pretty worn.

I've noticed the piston heads have grooves in them from the valves...

Before I shell out on getting the head refurbished, what are the thoughts on the piston heads? I'm loathed to invest in getting the top sorted if the bottom is only going to go and let the side down!

All thoughts gratefully received!

If the pistons are OK, any recommendations on head refurbing places?

Thanks in advance!!
Olly

I've uploaded the main video of the piston heads to YouTube to make viewing easier.

Any feedback gratefully received!

Thanks!

Well I think that's supposed to be that way, giving room for the valves. If your valves would have made such deep impressions in the pistons due to an earlier timing problem all valves would be bent and your engine would not run anymore.
