Help with RHD washer bottle

Post by PeteK »

Can anyone help me out with a part number and picture of a right hand drive washer bottle? At some point in the past, someone installed a bottle from something else. I'd like to do away with the crappy, cable-tied mounting and put an original back in.

Image
Bottle and dodgy bit of steel cable-tied in there.

Hi Pete, it looks to me like you have the correct washer bottle and the mounting for it is to the right and below the coil on the flitch, the schematic is for a four pot rhd, hth.

Hmmm... Think that bottle is for lhd.

Maybe I'm missing a part of the mount?

I followed the link and he did select parts for RHD. But it is possible BMW used the LHD image for the RHD version so the picture may be different.

Aaand, the image displays the early version, later versions (but I believe from 1980 or so) have a different setup with the pump upright and its pick up pushed straight into the tank. Not in ETK but you can see it on below image. With the old version NLA afaik they probably only display the new part no for all years 77-on now.

Aaah... Tricked by the picture! I see there are two different part numbers if I use Realoem and go to left or right hand drive. Just the picture is the same.

In an hillarious turn of events, it seems that the one I need is the same as the one I took off my e12 a few years back. Let's hope it's still in the cupboard!

I'm looking forward to the day my engine bay looks that tidy!

Hi pete, this type of bottle won't fit as the brake servo on a rhd model is placed here. The mounting for the bottle is on the l/h side on the flitch, to the right of where your coil is located (in the photo).

Yeah, got it. I checked on Realoem using the e12 serial number and it's the same part number with a differnt photo. Looks like the right part though.

I'm now forever indebted to dear old Dad. 3 years ago, he sent a banged up 318i to scrap yard. He only kept one part from it... You couldn't script it any better!
