Dear Experts
just thought I would share our current experiences to see if there are any other solutions
the problem concerns "Herman" my B6 2.8 Alpina
As you may know Herman has been modified in certain areas- one of which is the position of the engine- which is lower than stock (Alpina)
Lying on E34 535I engine mounts the engine is about 1 inch lower than stock and the sump is about 1 inch lower than std Alpina front spoiler
originally fitted with KW coilovers the car was REALLY low- ditched that set-up for standard Alpina stuff that came with the car
Now we were told that the Alpina used E28 535i engine mounts (which would raise it a bit) but guess what these do not fit with the new tubular manifold we have! It is even a struggle to get the manifold to fit even with the E34 mounts.
Now next week we are doing the Manx Classic- 2 of the events will not be a problem - but the third is very bumpy and I am concerned of taking out my sump
In the hope of raising the car a bit I have ordered 1 more Federal 535 RS in 205 50 15 size to match the spare and put on the front (instead of the 195 50 15s) 6 inch Alpina Rims
If that is not enough I have ordered some Hartge 16 rims for my E30 from Mobster's chum - which could go on?
Questions
1 Is there a lower sump that would fit an M30 (and where the E21 steering rack is) that I can get? My guys are talking about cutting 1 inch off the sump and rewelding it together with altered pickups etc
2 If we get the Hartge 7.5x16 rims in time- what spacers do I need to fit Herman ?
Sorry about all the questions! Usual last minute scramble before first event of the season!
PS we are really up against it this year- with 2 experienced rally drivers one in a Rothmans Rally 911 and the other in a Mark 2 Rally Escort!! Now wishing I had entered my Camaro....................

Yup, you may want to modify a sump yourself.
As for the Hartge alloys, we need the offset (ET) to decide on spacer requirements. Usually though, abt 10mm will do the job. Any local business where you can test fit as it also depends on exact shape of the wheel?
