Where does this vacuum line go?

Post by Reck »

Got a red line coming from the bottom of the distributor and leading to nowhere. Follows a black line from the same place but is just ziptied to it at the open end. 316/1.8/Weber carb.

Any ideas?

IIRC theres two vacuum lines from the dizzy, one goes on the carb and i believe that one in your pic goes on the base of the carb, im not entirely sure though.

Do you have any problems with your car - how it runs / idles?

With the hose off dynamic ignition timing will be way off. Didn't one go on the bottom of the air filter housing, the black pancake?

If the dizzy does have two lines off it where do they go. (On a fuel injection model)
I have a dizzy of an e21 running in a e30 motor.
One side is going to the advance control unit and the other is not attached.???

Yes, there are two lines. You can see in the second picture that the other one leads into a larger black pipe, that in turn goes to the air filter housing.

Not really noticed any problems, but then again this is the only E21 I've ever driven so I have nowt to compare against. :)

i have exactly the same engine in my e21. is your carb the Weber 32/34 DMTL?

If so the two lines for the adavance and retard should go onto the carb... hang on ill just go and have a look. i may even attempt a photo upload..

right. it goes on the base of the carb on the side nearest the rocker cover

its the black tuby thing coming in from low left. apologies for the poo photoes

Image

The other line goes here. on the opposite side of the carb and near to the solenoid thingy

hope this helps PK.

After a quick look, it seems I don't have the same carb. Theres only a hookup for one vaccuum line on each side, not two as per your first picture.

It's a weber 32/24 dmtl, but I think it came from a pre-facelift E30.. Would this explain it?

Re: Where does this vacuum line go?

the later e21 and e30 used the same autochoke carb on the M10 i think (pierburg 2BE maybe?_)

My first picture shows only one vaccume line (the lower one)
the other line just loops in and out of the carb (no idea what it is though).

Post some pics of your carb so we can have a gander and get this sorted for you

Also..... if the car is running well and the vac unit seems to be advancing and retarding the ignition timing okay, have you considered rule 1

1. if it ain't broke don't fix it?

i am fitting a weber and have only one vac line on carb
i have the two on the dizzy one as pictured the other on opposite side of diaghram
so dizzy rotates counter clockwise and sucking on either of these rotates stuff inside dizzy each way
so which is advance /retard ?
and where do they go?
one goes to airfilter .....does other T off the vac pipes i have the other side of carb which im guessing goes also to the inlet manifold.

if i could work out how to put pics up i would....
