Hi Peter,

Glad to see you moved along with us!

Congrats on the power steering. Will be a nice job to fit it as the pump & alternator bracket has one bolt that goes behind the front flywheel aka vibration damper so you have to remove some stuff at the front as well!

I believe it's enough to undo the 6 small bolts on the vibration damper so you won't have to touch the big 27mm center bolt (removed that one once and even after tightening it with the required 440Nm it kept running out... loctite required!

Rgds,
Jeroen

6 bolts is enough, that is correct.

That biggie bolt.... nice and easy to loosen... That bolt caused me headache more than once !!!

You are aware of that it is not supposed to have loctite on the threads on that one ? Did it really loosen up for you ?? Hmm...

Yeah quite strange if you know you fastened it well.... after a while you hear stange noises and you see the vibration damper moving to all directions.... any idea what could have happened if it came off?!

Yep! Been there. done that !!

I have seen a car where the pulley went off. I do not remember the english word, but what happened was that the "locking spline" on the crankshaft was destroyed. And as this was destroyed, the crankshaft was badly worn too. No good thing at all !

i have seen a camshaft pulley break of the end of the camshaft and drop down and jam the belt it then jammed up so bad is sheared the cranshaft in 2, i souinds pretty amazing but the engine was running at the time, it was at a garage where i was buying a e21 panel and they showed me it, i actually saw it happen, they had just fitted a camshaft and belt and dint even put the covers on the belt, i didnt no them, they were cowboys but i was only theere for the part, the noise it made when it happened was devastating, its unexplainabl.,
