Our #2 Daughter off to Argentina viva 2010 Ural BMW MC copy

Post by Old Man »

Our middle child daughter #2 has decided to venture off to Argentina with your boy friend on an Adventure Excursion on a Russian copy of a Germany (BMW) WWII motor cycle. After completing her masters in material engineering two months ago, BS is in physics. Kids got all the brains in this family.

They departed Friday at 1:30pm for TJ to get paper work for Mexico done and then slowly making their way to Mexico City. Their plans are to arrive in Buenos Aires around Christmas. Anyone interested can fallow them on their web site adv-ex.com.

Sure hope they stay safe!

I love it! Especially on oldtimer motorcycle like a Ural, Enfield or vintage BMW for that matter. Something similar has been on my mind for ages but I never found the time or the right companion so I can only say go and enjoy to them, it will be a trip to never forget for them!

A couple of years ago two Belgian guys set off for India on Enfields and made a travel report that was both impressive and a funny read, apparently its not on the web anymore.

Up date - they are in Mexico City Mexico today for a few days.

They both need to get new passports as the side car area they had them stored filled with water.

They have gotten stuck twice and they both burnt their legs on the head trying to get it out one of the times. Ural is bleeding oil out of the motor...

But they are having a great time and meeting a lot of great people, some on the same trip on adventure bikes - KTMs & BMWs.

Most of their updates have been viva FB which I am not sure everyone can see - they said last night that they were going to update their web site today before moving on into Honduras. They have a lot of pictures and stores to post.

Well they have been having issues with the bike lately. First the bike's rear wheel/hub case, where the drive shaft for the side car wheel comes out, cracked and snapped a couple of bolts. They fixed this two weeks ago in Bogota Columbia - left and then the wheel bearing started to go so back to Bogota to service them. Left again to have the engines left side piston break the top ring and grove. So, on another flat bed, they went back in Bogota again - new cylinders and pistons on the way.

They also went to a public scale finally on their last time leaving Bogota to see just how heavy the bike is fully loaded with them in it ( 1400 lbs) give or take a meal or two... :shock

They do have some great pictures of their time in Mexico and Panama up on their web site and face book pages.

wooo 1400 lbs, that's the good thing about backpacking, you don't have to bring tools and spare parts lol

Up date bike finally fixed and they are back at it. Friends from home, San Fransisco, meet them in Peru and did a trip to Machu Picchu. While they were there they filmed a music video - their friend Chris did the video work.
