Sills not draining water out

Post by Mucka »

Hi

My e21 has been standing a week during some heavy rainfall and when I moved it loads of water came out of the sills both front and rear drain holes, what could cause the water to gather in the sills?
Any ideas would be good :)

Thanks

if your car has a sunroof the drainage pipes run down the A post into the cills.

Im poking mine out of the ends of the sills so it drains out of the wheel arch instead of the sill

there is already a hole in the sill end for it you just have to put a hole in the wing to match

I did this take speakers out drill some holes toward the front of the car in the speaker holes and bend them to route them out and drill hole in plastic inner arche cover and screw some cable clips in to hold it out the way of the front wheels

I'd second this. Also to make sure blow some compressed air through the sunroof holes. If water blows back you've got a blockage for sure. I had water collecting after having a new sill fitted and the welder literally welding/melting shut the drain holes.

Dr Jim, cut the offending part of and extended the originals with some more tubing held on with a jubilee clip and some strong sealant.

Great advise thanks,

I don't think I have speakers in the front of mine, I don't have a radio slot anywhere on the dash, I'll remove the carpet and have a look.

Is this the standard location?

Yes, this is the standard location
I took the corner at high speed, came in the ditch, drove straight through a garden, flipped over 4 times and then I lost control of my steering-wheel!
