323i Has An Extra Chassis Leg!

Post by e21Keith »

Converting a 316 shell to 323i, final prep before the shell goes to the painters.

Done the under bonnet brackets for the metering unit and different position for the coil, modded the front panel for the 6-cylinder radiator.

I thought that adding the extra hanger for the second exhaust and the bracket for the fuel pump would be straightforward, but the 323i Has an entire additional chassis leg under the boot floor! Not that difficult to add, just need to drill out some spot welds.... Still need to mod the rear panel for the second exhaust.

Is there anything else i might have missed as I'd hate to have to break out the welder again after the shell has been painted....

Believe that's it, eh under the bonnet don't forget brackets for the coolant tank as well, and the right fitting for the ignition control module you're going to use (large or small one, and on the elevated bracket or not)

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I believe you need a return fuelline also from the enginebay towards the fueltank.

Thanks I got all the other items.

The bracket for the ignition module was already there and the mushroom for the air filter is a rubber bung that fits into the chassis leg. Coolant tank was the first one I did a year ago, so I'd forgotten that one!

I was really surprised to see the additional chassis leg under the rear of the 323i with the hanger for the second exhaust attached to it, I expected to see the chassis leg without the hanger!
