Headlight ring finish

Hi all, I'm half way through a bit of a freshen up and am not happy with the finish on my original headlight rings. What should the finish be on these? Chrome?

Mine were originally chrome but the plating had worn thin so ended up painting them satin black. final finish looks almost oem....

Thanks, I think black would look lost on mine as the car is black. I could try a silver I guess

Original is grey paint I believe, but many people including myself fitted the chromed ones which give a much more fresh & shiny look. Prolly E12, don't think the E21 even came with chrome ones from the factory, or?

Fitted brand new headlights and new chrome rings myself but never took a decent photo

I am going to paint mine with 'chrome' paint as I think this should set off the black surrounds well, never tried this paint before, otherwise will send to chromer.

Received 'chrome' paint today and sprayed rims, very pleased with finish, much more chrome like than normal metallic silver finish, should set off nicely the black surrounds.

Link to photo below, to be honest the finish is just a fine silver, not like chrome as indicated on the can, but probably as good as Original.
