Appears to be a late model just like the 240.0.0266 we have in our own article. Give that a thorough read for all the details!

Yes! indeed it's only one number different, 3 instead of 2!
Could it be this?

I am wondering, are gear ratios on this box the same as on the other ones?

I have read that article multiple times. This and the pdf about the specs of the e21, are like the Bible to me. I hope that it's the short 5speed! How can i know for sure?

Wrong side for the speedo.

Did you find any markings around the top of the bellhousing that include two letters?

I have found inside the bellhousing two numbers: 1.1

Not there. Just on the edge. Look at the photo I posted. You should find the letters ME or MF.

After removing a thick layer of dried motor oil, this came up.

And of course you can just push a long screwdriver through that pin and test out the gear pattern, see if that 5th really is there

The mystery is over mates, this is a Getrag 240, 5 speed manual gearbox from an e30.

Couldn't see a connection for the speedo drive on your pics. So this now means you have an argument with the seller?
