A couple of pointers please
Hello all, I've nearly got all the electrics sorted on the car but have hit a few stumbling blocks.
I only have the wiring diagram for the 320/6 and 323/6 so any help will be much appreciated!
There's this set of wires next to the main light switch and rear window defogger, I can't seem to trace this to anything. Are these for the fog light?
Found these 3 wires coming out of the main wiring loom in the engine bay, I'm thinking that these may be for the brake pad wear indicator but I can't find them on the diagram.
There's this sensor on the front of the engine block that has the connector snapped off, is this the coolant temp sensor? What about the other blanked hole?
So onto the carb, any ideas what's going on with this wiring? Does anyone know where the water and vacuum pipes are supposed to go?
Same for these wires too, I can't trace them on the wiring diagram.
Back of the block next to the dizzy. What sensor is this?
Would be a massive help if anyone that knows their way around a 4 pot carb engine that can give me pointers.
Cheers

Ok cool.
The second photo is the wiring loom from the dash into the engine bay, the black thing next to the wires is the electronic spark control unit.
EDIT: It's not the defogger as that's already connected.

Pity the wiring has seen some modifications over time, for example the blue and red wires are not part of the original wiring loom. Apart from the main wires you will always see a combined color coding, for example blown with white stripe (brown-red), blue with red stripe (blue-red) and so on. If you have the 6 cylinder wiring diagram, the color coding will be identical on your car so that may already help you identify the purpose of wires.

It's a massive shame and what's worse I'm working off the injection equipped vehicle wiring diagram so most of the wires are not even the same.Jeroen wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 11:58 am Pity the wiring has seen some modifications over time, for example the blue and red wires are not part of the original wiring loom. No-one seems to know about the carb vacuum piping or the coolant piping routing so I'm just going to get it working as much as I can and trade the car in for something else.

So the front defogger is electric and doesn't work from the fans?

sadly I'm no carb specialist, these are getting rare these days but a good 4 cyl workshop manual should be able to help you out?Sel The Don wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 7:39 pm No-one seems to know about the carb vacuum piping or the coolant piping routing so I'm just going to get it working as much as I can and trade the car in for something else.

Are there any 4 cyl manuals for the E21 available? I also have the crappy Pierburg 1b carb so will have to take that into account.Jeroen wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:47 pmsadly I'm no carb specialist, these are getting rare these days but a good 4 cyl workshop manual should be able to help you out?Sel The Don wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 7:39 pm No-one seems to know about the carb vacuum piping or the coolant piping routing so I'm just going to get it working as much as I can and trade the car in for something else.

Gotcha. I suspected it was for for the fog lights even though the colours are different to the manual I have. Cheers

Re: A couple of pointers please
So I'm very nearly done with the wiring. I have 3 violet/green wires left over.
As they're joined I presume that they connect to the two sensors on the carb and to the pulldown unit?
One of the violet/green wires also has a green/black wire with it, although I don't know what it's for I'm presuming that these are for the pulldown as it has two connectors on it. Where does the violet/black go, to ground? All grounds are brown so I'm unsure.
