Engine shutting down

Post by Yiannos »

Hello from Cyprus. Im looking for some technical info on behalf of a friend who owns an E21 323i. The car is shutting down after a couple of minutes of hard driving. He has changed the petrol regulator at the back, the kjetronic fuel system on the engine and the petrol pump. The car does have spark. All the components are new. Any ideas please will be more than welcome. Thank you.

some measure is needed when it does the fault, such as measuring the fuel pressure in the divider when it is not working

Any connection with coolant/oil/outside temp perhaps? How does it "shut down"? Gradually, instantly? What do you see on the dash, if anything?

Its almost instantly. No problem with temperature, neither coolant or oil.

Perhaps it is worth checking the Ignition Control Module notwithstanding the fact that you say that there is a spark. This part on most cars will be 40 years old, as was the part on my car when it suddenly failed.

I agree. Not much electronics on these cars so it must be something like that, or perhaps a fuel pump on its way out.
