I'll be able to do it by myself hopefully, given that I have the ramp and all the bits I need ready to go on (just want to clean the exhaust manifold up a bit before it goes on) I should be able to get the mechanicals sorted tomorrow. I also have about 20L of petrol in jerrycans ready to pour into the tank for a test run!!!

Rob just gave me the remaining bits at a supermarket car park meet. He's heading back down the M6 in a newly purchased e30 316 which should get him home all being well. £200 well spent by the looks of it!

I'll take a proper camera tomorrow so I can post a progress report.

Yep been crossing things off as well as writing my own post it's! Nuts on mounts sounds wise. I got some new plugs the other day so I think I really do have everything I need now.

Rob's new 316 has wonky/warped front brakes so is apparently fun to drive, he'll be driving down to Surrey with a trailer tent on the back of it for good measure! I would say he's a bit potty like the rest of us.

The real fun starts tomorrow when I drive back from stoke... its been good fun across manchester and then to stoke. Its a prefacelift 316 which means 1.8 m10 goodness, also upgraded with a weber twin choke, it goes very well! Its like a slightly more modern e21 316. The car is mint except a few battle scars and rusted out bumpers, its the most mint e30 shell ive seen! The brakes let it down but keeps me on my toes.

Enough about my shed, pics jim!

Got the 316 home, what a beast! Brakes held up but I heard the distinct metal on metal sound a few miles from home... Vented's here I come...

Decided to pull the windscreen out today, chrome trim was actually just yellow plastic, and the screen had an unrepairable chip/crack in it. Two small rust holes in the surround which have been ground, jenolited and primed. I think I'll just use filler rather than weld them. Also did much fill - sand - prime - sand - fill - sand - prime etc on both doors and the passenger arch.

Slowly getting there.

I snapped a couple of pics of the holes under the windscreen, phone rather than proper camera I'm afraid, also one of the front end of the car - lots of primer there ready to be flatted.

Small hole in the passenger side corner...

Small hole drivers side...

And the general view of the front end...

I've now taken off all the trim, plus the screen. Found a small dent in the bottom of the drivers door as I was leaving this afternoon so a bit more filling to do then it's time for high build primer. Need to work out where I can get some new canvas for the front of the roof and to recover the Baur panel.

JIm I believe those holes are to act as drains to stop water build up under the windscreen seal around the scuttle. looking good though

The passenger side one had a big rubbery rust blob over it, wasn't quite sure if it was an OEM hole or a rust creation. I can't remember if there was a hole in the slug screen surround - apart from the massive one I welded up!

Anyone else pulled a screen out recently and can comment??

My e30 m3 shell has those holes and it's never been used.

I'll have to poke something into the holes and see where it comes out - if it's into the scuttle to drain water away then it's good, if it's under the dash it needs filling!

If the windscreen surround just had a bit of surface rust then I have had some good luck!

Pull knackered seal strip out then push from inside car. Loud crack and the screen snapped in two and popped out. It had a large chip/crack in the middle already so I wasn't bothered about breaking it.

Ah. Do you rekon the screen would have come out un-damaged without the chip/crack in it then ? Some good looking work on the Bauer here mate, didnt even know this thread was here! Have you started up the engine yet ?

I think you got lucky with that scuttle! My plan was ignorance is bliss for my 323i M50 but with it's impending cage I'm going to have to take the screen out and confront what lurks beneath!!
