Re: TWR 335i
So when are you building the car Rav? Should be good! Right now I'm pretty much maxed out financially thanks to Herr Schrick but with that, a 6 branch and a lightened & balanced bottom end, it should still be pretty sweet.
Re: TWR 335i
Trying to arrange a low loader for next week some time, as I need to get it onto the drive.
Cab's going into the garage, and then I'l start work on her.

So you are fitting L-jet anyway; 'Motronic' is what Bosch call the electronic engine management part of any of their electronic injection systems.RetroBeemer wrote:It would have run L-jet but, as I said, in the interest of reliability I'm fitting Motronic. I guess the old L-jet could always be re-fitted if I ever sold it? Unlikely though.
Oh and FYI, L-Jet uses Motronic ML1.0, not the 1.1/1.3 system we all know and love from the M20.

Re: TWR 335i
We've taken the system from a circa 1990 635csi. The head is going to be built up over the next couple of weeks and I've just ordered new followers to go with the cam. I did consider going with a Cat cam as they offered a similar profile to Schrick but I bit the bullet and went for Schrick instead. I opted for their fast road / hi torque profile which they suggested. They seemed confident that with the 6 branch and minimal flowing, I should see 250bhp but, more importantly, a big chunk of torque. Lovely.
The inlet manifolds and cam cover are all polished but I've yet to discover who did them? I might just go back to a nice, satin black, crackle finish. I think cone filters work OK on M30's too?
There have been some alterations to the alloy sump and there's some obvious welding been done at some point I don't know if it was done to allow fitting or if it's a repair? We also need to drop the sump anyway and see if it has been baffled? I'm guessing we'll be checking out the bottom end bearings at the same time.
The suspension and brakes all look to be in fine fettle. Obviously bits like the flexible hoses will need replacing with braided items. I'm going to fit Toyo 888's too. It came with Pirelli P6's but I don't like them. I'm going to get the rims refurbished as a Christmas present to myself. Inside it's a case of re-fitting everything that was taken out when it was going to be raced. I just bought a pristine headling but need a sunroof trip panel as it came from a non-sunroof car. I also need the gutter trim but I think I'm going to go for new stuff unless someone has some decent stuff they want to sell? I managed to get a TWR steering wheel back which will be a nice touch and I'm going to fit the same VDO gauges as I have in MIB as they look right and pretty much slot straight in to the centre console. The good thing about the interior being out is that I can route all the speaker wires so they all be hidden beneath the carpet & trim.
If anyone has any mint gutter trims and the inner sunroof panel ( headliner ) please PM me?

Re: TWR 335i
cones fillters on m30's work fine.. just try and mount as far forward as poss..( not above the manifold) mines use's a pipercross large cone.

Re: TWR 335i
Is yours steel or ally mate?
Yeah, I think we're going to shield the filter - sort of box off that corner of the engine bay if you know what I mean? I've been meaning to do the same thing on MIB. How far off is your MOT?

Re: TWR 335i
alloy sump... m.o.t a while off as yet till i get it resprayed, mot should be fine though as it was very good before it went in to storage(repair) .. as for the filter fritz run a alloy tube from the metering unit just after the rubber bend to the front then the filter. boxing off the corner to house the filter is a good idea.. tried it with my old mk2 gti.. worked a treat... as i say mark once you have it up and running you wont want to go back to anything less... huge fun in the dry but can be a bit scary in the wet..
.. was pleased to read the artical about there performace... never had mine figured to 60mph but i dont think there will be any differnce between them as they are running more or less the same spec, mine was based around a B9, the first lump produced 252.3 bhp, then oil pump failure... second lump was built up using an high pressure oil pump and the same spec( although has always felt a tinnie bit slower) ie cam/head flowed, manifold ect ect, bar the close ratio dog box from the 5/6 series.. also i think mine is still running the l-jet system.. how much of a differnce will the motronic from the 1990 m30 b35 make? also i think fritz now does a performance chip for them...

Re: TWR 335i
AFAIK there are a few places doing chips for Motronic equipped M30's - much the same as M20's I guess?
Did your car have the e12 diff conversion and dog-leg box? Mine has the Alpina box with 6 & 7 series ratios. It'll be interesting to see what difference there is? I'm going to look at an uprated oil pump while we've got the sump off. Just need to find a UK supplier.
Any progress with finding a bodyshop?

Re: TWR 335i
I had the e12 diff conversion, the first they had done for a road car apparently, and the gertrag sport box(dog leg) from the 5/6 series.. i dont use first as its way to short.. 2nd gear and bam gone...
havent found a bodyshop as of yet but ive plenty of time now gona get christmas and holiday out of the way first.. plus with us going on strike at work every bloody month kinda hurts the pay packet!!!
the aim was this summer but thats well passed(cheers mick) so its my goal to have it fully done by summer 2011.. wheels ect...

Re: TWR 335i
Because of it being a TWR car I am going to leave it as they had it mate. The Motronic can easily be swapped back but I don't want to change too much from how the car was back in '82. It has -2'' progressive rate springs etc and TWR developed there own specs on the Bilstein shocks. I'm not sure about differences in strut brace - if there are any?
Re: TWR 335i
its a well sorted car as it is, reversable mods are a good idea especaily with this one mark FAP .... i was wondering about the clearence from the inlet manifold regarding the brace, if a standard 323i brace fits then happy days...

Re: TWR 335i
I'll let you know? The manifold should only be another couple of weeks - or so I'm told? - so once it's here I'll take a look. I didn't notice any obvious difference though tbh.
