Re: Uwbuurman: 1978 323i polaris Bare shell, bad repairs!!!!
Earlier on, we discovered some bad spots near the mountingpoint of the rear axle. We mended those. But now, when everything is all cleaned up, I can see that there have been more bad repairs in the past. So I need to redo this work, cut it all out and start over again. But before that will happen, I need to find a way to get the supportframe in the wheelhouses again, so I can reach the spot.

Great restoration project, one of the best I've seen. looking forward to see how it ends.

This year started with closing the gap behind the wheelhouse. At first, I made the donormaterial to size:

And stiched:

This piece that remains is a pain in the butt… Needs to be bent in two directions:

So I made a cartboard mould and a testexample.

And done!

Fitting and clamping

Welded

Drilled the holes for spotwelding

Welded

And grinded

In colours…

After that, I tried to repair the rust near the caps in de floorpanels. I thought I had two donorpieces, but as it turned out, one was of a bootfloor, so I just cut out the rotten parts and so I could do with just one donorpiece!

Re: Uwbuurman: 1978 323i polaris Restoring big time!
Later that day, it turned out tob e a late Christmas…
The GLS driver came at the house and had a package for me. That could only be from Walloth & Nesch. The bootfloor pieces.

After that, I went to see Thomas, from the forum. He had a purple baur, ugly as hell. I cut out two floorcaps. Mine are alright, but I don’t have the caps in front. Teh Baur… pff, never seen a more rotten e21! The floor is pushed in, at least 2 inches. But the caps are ok!
The are type 1 caps. Type 1 have a large square in the middle, while type 2 have 3 little rounds on the outside.

And when I came home again, there was an envelope from Dennis, also from the froum. In the envelope where the little bushes that holds the fuel and brakelinse underneath the car.

So I would like to thank:
GLSguythanks for delivering the W&N package!
Thomas thanks for the caps!!
Dennis thanks for the bushes!!
