on saturday i picked this car up.

Had to permanent live the fan (only a fuse and no relay yet) and switch the lambda plugs the right way round (kid at the exhaust place musta got confused and put them on wrong way round)

I can tell you lot that this car is now immense - the engine sounds like its angry when you accelerate. Its also pretty quiet when your pootling along at 2k in fourth at 30mph - theres so much torque you dont need to pressure the car a little touch and it starts accelerating.

my wife was following me home and she said when i got enough confident to give the car a tickle - it just hunched down and then burned off into the distance :launch. haha.

I couldnt give it too much stick cos the clutch is new but i can already tell its way way better then the last time i drove MIB when it had the 2.7 12v - it starts burning along at 3k - unlike before when there was nothing till 5k.

I drove my e21 last night and i kept thinking *sigh* MIB's acceleration was way stronger then mine tbh. once i have this done im going 2.8 asap.

I can't wait. :)

I best do something to keep the boot mounted sub in place too!

I'll give it a couple of weeks before doing the 2.5 inlet swap & re-map. :shake

Sounds epic! Will hopefully see it in action some time soon.
Nas you mentioned about not ragging it cuz the clutch is new.....should you not do that ??? Ive been hammering it, is that a big no, no ?

You have to let your clutch wear in about 500 miles mate.

Nas, i am surprised the old 2.7 had nothing till 5k, i cant speak for every 2.7 but mine is up and ready waiting to be raped at 3-3.5k

Im thinking it was the cam and software on that 2.7 to blame really.

just gave it a brief tickle when already in gear

not as if i dumped it at 6k and did burnout into a combo drift at a roundabout! the flywheel and clutch are new so theres no uneven surface for it to bed into.

Its when you hold the car on the clutch on a hill / junction slipping it that really knackers them when they are new - as it glazes them.

500 miles a lot - 200 miles should be enough bedding in time.

The M52 gets the speedo input from via the ABS system (uses the ABS pulse), with out the input the ecu limits the revs to 6k so it will be intresting to see if this goes above it.

I don't Know if the ecu gets a signal to say the abs is good or an signal to say yhe abs is bad. If the abs send an error signal to inhibt the revs then it should no be a problem to totaly omit it

The rev counter wasnt working when i drove it on saturday as the previous person who did wiring on marks car for some reason put a totally new wire in to the rev meter and it was hanging out on the drivers side of the car. i couldnt test this before as there was no manifold so it sounded like the world was going to end when i started it up.

why would the ecu would need to limit power because the abs pulse is missing?

i didnt need to connect a signal from the abs unit to my obd1 ecu (which redlines fine) - also wont the abs be picking up a pulse from each wheel therefore a different value from each corner? ill have to tell you if it redlines in the gears later on tonight but im hoping it is!

what I can tell you that before we pulled the engine from the donor we disconnected the speedo plug on the diff and the speedo stopped working - but we drove the car in sports mode all the way up to an unpublishable speed and it was redlining when changing up.

i think this issue is only seems to affect people with us spec cars from what i read.

From looking through the wiring diagram the input is from the abs so pulling the speedo sender will not effect it.

Not an issue on m50 engines as the ECU are a differnt spec compard to the m52, as far I can tell the speed input on the m52 is only used to limit power if you have an abs issue, some sort of nanny system.

But the proof is in the pudding so have fun on that private road tonight.

But not too much.

If it turned out that revs were being limited is the easiest solution a chopper wheel on a drive shaft?

What does it redline at anyway?

test tonight cancelled lol - by the time i got the fan and the loom soldered it was time to go swap my wheels as i sold them - ill have plenty of time after work tomorrow!

edit - jason if you are right - i have figured out i could probably just piggy back the signal from the cam / harmonic damper sensor - as they are also hall sensors? this should generate the pulse the ecu needs to trick it into believing that its moving along, therefore no rev cut / no top speed limit.

I should stop speculating and try to get sleep and wait till i just drive the thing tomorrow night.

What's the oil capacity like now Nas?

Where on the dipstick does it show as full now?

Is it today the arches get rolled & s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d ??

The capacity is stock. I've marked the new full level on Mr dipstick
