Update: Hunting for stance. Its proving quite a task getting some decent stance on the big wheels. I think it can be done though! :D

Here is the situation as I see it.

1. Lowered massively, on 17's. I cut the guard and tapped the inner guard up to meet it, and was going to get it welded there and be done.

2. As we all know, lowering an e21 induces massive amounts of rear camber. Looks cool, but is not tyre friendly if they're wide and low profile.
Image

3. One solution to this is to raise the subframe. I'm in the process of doing this now, although the previous photo is with it already raised, and there is a lot of camber still.

Raising the subrame results in the outer joints not having much room (I'll be shaving some material off where the arm actually would contact with the chassis)
Image
I also had to make a bit of room for the driveshaft...
(yeah, i got a bit carried away there... )
Image
The inner joint will be raised (im not a fan of the adjustable bolts, and its cheaper to just weld a plate on with holes in a different spot).
Image
now we still have the problem of arms that 'point down', which is not ideal. I havent figured a solution to this yet (an affordable one, anyway), but there must be a way to fix that.
Image

4. Next I needed to make some room for the bigger tyres and also bring material out to meet the flares (which aren't wide enough in the rear for these tyres)

5. starting to look ok

6. and the front needed a bit of clearancing too. im going to cut this area out. it doesnt need to look perfect, because the flare will cover it all up anyway.

and thats all for today :D

Good work mate. I'm still not a great fan of 17's on an e21 myself but look forward to the finished result. 8)

yeah, part of me wishes I'd just gone with some nice wide 15's for this build, but I wanted big disks so I could run a pedalbox and no booster. the price you pay for a shaved engine bay i guess!

also, its been in the build for so long, my tastes have changed quite a bit. there are plenty of things I would do differently now if I could.

yeah they cost a bit aye. They were expensive, then I got a call when they arrived in nz to tell me i had to pay customs duty and 12.5% gst on top of it

i read online that the trick is to use gladwrap/cling film over the bolt when tightening it up, so the gold doesnt scratch off. I bought 4 extra bolts, so figure those are the testers...
