Satuday January 5th, 2013

I went on with cutting and taking her apart. Every time I do something, It seems to get worse. But finally I’ll get there…
At firts I took some floorpanel from the boot. Underneath sits the beam with the exhaust mount. Brove had worked on the mount, but I didn’t know why. But now I do, the beam is rotten.

The bumpenmountingplate needs to be in between the new floor and the rearpanel, but is not preformed in the floorpanel.

Image

Image

Image

After that, I re shaped the bootfloor and rearpanel, I found two round shapes. What are the for?

Image

Image

Image

The cleaning of the floor gives a lot of crap.

Image

But its getting cleaner and cleaner!

Image

And then at least the difference between type 1 and 2 floor caps.

Why I’m considering a new rearpanel? This one is more deformed than I hoped for. Besides that the bitch was to narrow when we fitted the sidepanels. After cutting out the rotten sidepanels and fitting the new ones, we had this:

Image

That was closed up, but not in a good way, so I went to Jan, Groentje_me, to collect this.

Image

I’m happy to have collected a pedal, to caps for the bootfloor, a piece of chassisbar and a rearpiece, from which I had hoped to gain some original flanges to get my rearpanel al original again. But after cleaning it, it turned auto to be rotten.

Image

This is a NO GO! But Jan, thanks for the parts!

Earlier on this week, I repaired the rotting bar and exhaustmount. Just cut it of, cut out the rotten part and welded in a donorpart. I’ve cleared up the crap and rust from the mount and placed it back, but this time correctly. Forgotten the camera, so all I have is a crappy Nokia 0,03 MP phonepic.

Image

Why was it all rotten in this spot? As it turned out, the mount had been repaired before, but only partial. After I took the mount of, it turned out to be a new mount, complete with factory label still on it and all. So the must have replaced it during the restauration, by a new one. But the didn’t care to paint or conserve it, just welded it on in the black transportation paint. Well done Brové! (s%^&# stupid mofo’s!…)

I received my NOW rearpanel from Walloth und Nesch. Original BMW part. I was very happy with it until I unwrapped it… Not only did they send me a new panel, but also rust and a dent.. Scratches, all right, but this much rust??

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Yes, I can reapir this, but I did pay good money for it, so I want a good product! Up front the did nog give me any notice on the shape the panel is in. Not even when they replied on my email asking in what shape and state the panel was… *ssholes…
But what to do? I need this panel, it is the last one they had… Send a pissed off email, so I curious for their reaction…

oh man, its like you make one big leap forward but then two smaller leaps back.

I seriously would hit mr walloch and mr neche with that rusty panel. they have clearly got a very damp barn they keep it in. its outrageous!

Exactly my feeling Nas...pfffff.. But we're getting there. After a a strong exchange of words on the situation they refunded 25% on the panel. But it's is taking a lot of energy. But I kept the panel and it had to go on the car.

On with the rear panel! To get the old one off, I cleared the spotwelds.

Image

Image

By doing that, my choice to replace it is supported The bootfloor needs attention. At the flange work has to be done. Previous this has been tempered with. Lots of filler….

And the panel is gone!

Image

Image

These welded holes I found, must be from a towbar?

Image

Image

Onto the bootfloor BMW welded a plate for securing the jack. From underneath on my E21 that looks like this…. :bag

Image

I will drill out the spotwelds and repair the hole. After that I replace the mount.

Underneath the car are two brackes that hold the rearseatbelts. The brackets are welded under the seat and the bootfloor, but they are rotten also.

Image

This rusthole is located in the bootfloor on top of the bracket.

Image

Image

This explains the rustwater on the bootfloor.

When the bracket is gone, we see this.

Image

Image

Clearing it up and cutting out a hole.

Image

Image

Making a donorplate

Image

And some rustpreventing spray. Welding is for the next time.
