Thanks a lot guys, so let me clarify it properly now I locate the fuel pump which is under the car somewhere and find the live wire, match that wire in the fuse box and connect it to pin13 of the e30 plug with a fuse inbetween and earth the fuel pump. The thing with the 3 brown wire in the back under the back seat do I need to touch that or modify it any way. Shall I leave the brown wires connected as they are?

mate you shouldnt have to bother with them three brown wires- they go straight to the cluster - it tells you how much petrol you have left!

You will find that on the pump there is a brown and a green wire. im guessing the green is the live mate.

just be thankful you have an e21 that has the pump already - i have a carb one and im doing mine from scratch!

hey murran I got under my car and found the fuel pump, the fuel pump had two wires one which was green with thin black line and other was just a plain black wire. I assumed that the green was the live. So i traced the same wire in the fuse box and connected it to the green/violet wire (pin 13) i ran a live wire in between both the wires and didnt put a fuse for the mean time just to see if it works. As soon as i connected the live to the wires i could hear the pump but there is no petrol coming out from the fuel lines in the engine bay???? i just held both the fuel lines in a cup just to see whether if i was getting any petrol coming out...nothing. But i could hear the fuel pump pumping something.

do you hear the pump making noise?

maybe you put the fuel hoses in the engine bay the wrong way round?

if your not getting any fuel as you say, have you tried disconnected the pipe from the rail and put the fuel pipe in the cup and turn the car over to see if fuel is actually reaching the rails, if it is the you probably have the fuel pipe conected to the wrong way round and if still dont fire up, check the the spark lead from ignition coil, if ok the check the damper sensor. electrical is the most simplest part of the car.

Try that

we have my 323i currently runnin off a jerry can in the boot, or did untill we refitted the fuel tanks. its fairly easy just to check that your pump is actually pumping fuel or not.
