Just a word of warning before you liberate a 2002 engine, mounting holes on the '73 2002 block I've got are in the wrong place for the e21 engine mounts. I'll be swapping the 2002 tii crank and pistons into an e21 block as the bore is the same and using the 2002 head to match the pistons

Early E21 blocks have same mountings. I ordered the engine mount for a 1977 car to fit the engine in the slug. Cost about 15 quid and came from germany in two days.

cheapest way to power with the m10 route is to.......

e30 m10 engine
set of twin 40's or bike carbs if thats your thing.
exhaust system and manifold(although the fritz manifold isnt equal length and it can be built cheaper home made stylee!)

IMO just ditch the whole m10 idea and think bigger engine and go injection. more power and better fuel economy

I have spent ages searching for random rare bits for my m10 and im still not really much closer to actually getting it started

doing up an m10 to the level of how DrJim has is a lot of time and money not to mention expertise.

You can get a fair whack of power but it isnt gonna be cheap. If you want serious power to crap yourself then you need to think about transplanting an engine that already has balls.

Ive got a feeling your not too fussed about insane power - your prolly more interested in this new fangled "stance" stuff? if you want an engine with serious balls your gonna have to do something about the excessive rear camber you got going on there.

I told my mate who has a mk1 jetta show car that i dialled out rear camber when i slammed mine, by specially modifying the rear axle - he was like"WTF - too much neg camber is ace uleh".

im old fashioned like that - didnt like the car changing lanes by itself at 90mph and the tyre wear was horrific.

If your going to stick with an m10 just throw a Weber on it and save the rest of your dough for suspension and paint. If you're desperate for more power get a bigger engine. You could spend a bundle on an m10 and still get wasted by a 200 quid 2.5.

its easy to get another 30bhp out of an m10 over standard but then i would say you gotta spend another £1000 per 10bhp after that. like mark says you will just get wasted by a motronic car.
as for negative camber it all depends if you wanna go round corners fast or not
