A word of warning
Re: A word of warning
theres nothing wrong with the odd swear word. i mean we all swear everyday. why not write it in moderation?
personally i hate the retro rides site. your not allowed to say anything negative, all swear words get filtered out etc. despite all the cool cars its sooooo dull to read threads.
dont get me started on pink e21's again lol! if your guna paint your e21 pink you deserve all you get! my 2p's anyway.
i guess im just used to trampdrift where your positvily encouraged to slag people off!
thread of abuse of a popular member........

Re: A word of warning
My 2 cents. Personally, I like a bit of banter between regulars on any forum. Not to the extent where people feel excluded or threatened but I have never seen that here anyway. The only time I have seen anyone challenged it was brought about by their own actions.
I like being part of a forum and have been helped out many times with parts, advice etc. It also lets me blog the stuff I do to, or with, my car. I realize this isn't everyone's cup of tea but no-one is forced to read it either. By doing this though, I think it goes without saying that I am inviting comment and opinion, both good and bad. If we all drove identical cars there would be no point doing what we do would there? I have always found any comments to be pretty respectful and/or funny. I have also made some good friends via this forum and also used it to sell some parts as well as buy them. I don't do this as a business venture, merely as a way of helping one another out.
The only genuine anger/anamosity I have seen has come about down to deals going bad or people appearing to profit from fellow members. I'm not going to point the finger as I understand that recent events in particular, have been resolved. What might help, is if people selling as a ''business'' declare themselves as such? I would also suggest that people are clear about what they are selling, the condition it is in and what each party will do, should either be unhappy with the transaction/goods? There's a big difference in selling something with an unknown fault to selling something you know is knackered and hoping they won't say anything or even realize. I sold a Weber carb' to Petrosf after telling him it would fit his manifold. When it didn't, I could have said ''sorry, you need to buy the correct manifold then'' but instead, I bought / sent the right one out of my own pocket. Treating people how you wish to be treated yourself isn't a bad way to go.
I also think that the practice of seeing an item for sale and then re-advertising with a chunk added on is a pretty low move and one that several people have noticed recently. I know I have said it before, but the used BMW spares market is pretty small so the chances of getting away with a trick like that are negligible. Get yourself a rep' for dodgy deals and it'll be a hard one to shake imo.
I think we must be lucky with the post down here cos first class only takes a day or two max and I haven't lost a cheque yet!
Maybe we should have a ''feedback thread'' in the for sale section so that people can get an idea of who they are dealing with?

Re: A word of warning
so what was wrong with the fap icon really? its just a bit of fun, i dont think anyone isn't going to come back to the site just because they saw it. cant wait to see a discussion where bagonhead can be used, i can imagine the words paper bag job may be used.... but then that thread will be re-moved before it even gets started haha.
Re: A word of warning
There's nothing particularly wrong with the fap smiley, but do we really need it? This forum always struck me as being a sensible mature one, jacking off over a car doesn't quite fit that. Although there's a fair bit of mad Dutch liberalism I suppose!

Re: A word of warning
Mark,
On a few occasions people have told me they were slightly intimidated by he forum atmosphere, keeping them from registering or posting. I'm checking out what that's exactly, but that's definitely not wat I want!

There is nothing wrong with a bit of banter amongst us all.
It adds a bit of fun to the forum.
What pisses me of ( i hope that dont count as a swear word)
is when the forum gets used by 1 or 2 members
for selling there stuff and not contributing any
advise or help to fellow members
who are wanting to keep there beloved cars on the road.

You've touched on a point I've long thought about forums; you get out what you put in. No doubt the more seasoned veterans round these parts go looking on the Net and in the mags when they need answers to questions.cobbler2u wrote:What pisses me of ( i hope that dont count as a swear word)![]()

But for the noobs, they look to a place like this for answers, and don't always get them. Yeah yeah, I know that it gets irritating answering the same 'where can I get a set of staggered Alpinas for £50 lol' -style questions, so as a suggestion why don't some of us do some very simple write-ups for basic E21-specific DIY stuff, an E21'FAQ' and similar articles that the new peeps to the site can read before they even have to ask anything.
For example, I'm in the process of doing a 'how-to' for some of the recent maintenance I've done on my car, things that the Haynes manual doesn't really touch on in detail.
