the rust does not look too bad.....i have seen worst!!!!!!!!!! It is to be expected for a 20+ year car. I guess the main grouse is that the about of work needed is not dfferent to one that is in worst shape.

Anything can be fixed.
I say drive and enjoy it first. And when you fall in love with it, you'll probably fix it. Don't just start restoring it, you'll probably quit half way. But when you first drive it 1 summer, you'll have the motivation to restore it.
Enjoy :driving :launch

Pretty much what I have decided.

Going to get the mechanics done ..and leave the non structral rust/defects until the winter.

Front calipers need a strip down..so have ordered service kits and pistons...also the exhaust is holed in several places.
Both rear boxes and the pre-silencer on their way from Germany.

She has plenty of pull and drives ok..apart from the shaking caused by the knacker front brakes, discs may be slightly warped so these will no doubt be renewed as well.

Rear calipers just needed freeing up, and the sliding surfaces cleaned and copperslipped up.

Minor jobs, temp gauge not working, coolant needs changing, possible vacuum pipe leakage.
Hood window is being restitched in, and should be ready for reattaching next week.

These jobs I will do in the next few weeks, and have until July until the MOT runs out, so she shall be going for another soon to see what that throws up in addition.

Ahh she doesn't look too bad, Dr Jim's was worse!

I have a full 323i manifold that i no longer required should this help with your exhaust issues although you're moving at a pace getting the little bits and bats sorted. I suppose with all that 'free time' in the house you can get lots done. :P :playcar

Welcome to the forum Keith, i hope the wife is coming round to the BMW now.

it just needs a bit of TlC. i checked, your old 2002 hasn't been taxed since 2001. the fact they still have details though suggest it's still alive and SORNed. hopefully it hasn't been crushed and will eventually find its way back onto the road :) gotta love 2002's!

Christ, can't have moved much since I sold it..which I am sure was 2000....maybe I will try and track her down.

Having the Baur, has rekindled my desire to have another 02...and my wife is keen as well.

Best get the E21 done first though I suppose.

I filled some holes, rebuilt the front calipers...though suspect I may have other issues...being troublesome to bleed.

Got some aerosols made up in Polaris to touch up the filling I have done...

Found a few more structural holes...both sides under the front jacking areas are rotted through to the floor.....not sure whether to replace the jacking squares once cut out, seems to be a bit of a crap trap.

Hopefully exhaust will be here this week...so I can fit that and start driving her about ( subject to brakes being sorted ... :? )

I am hoping I have found all the nasty bits now, so will take her for an early MOT once the above has been sorted.

Wish me luck....
