hi,
well, DAMN!!
Lhe car. I too am a sleeper man, i bet that ford owner is looking at BMWs at the moment!

A question, how did the calipers fit to the BMW stub axles? Machined? standard bearings?? Have you boiled the original calipers yet?!
I too will upgrade, just havent begun, just cross-referencing info...

Imelted my calipers in the fist week of getting the car!, Mind you, i did average 98mph for ..... a while

awaysideways, the calipers are mounted on a 10mm laser cut plate that I designed. The plate moves the calipers for the larger radius and allows for the different offset of the WRX discs. They work great and I haven't cooked them yet. Do you want photos.
Regards.
Matt.

THanks, id like to see your designs, thanks
Do the WRX use the same bearing as BMW to mount the disc?...Or did you deesign a way of succeeding in that?!

I too am currently in WA...

I used the BMW hub and bearing.
The WRX disc rotor is drilled to 4 in 100 stud pattern as the WRX is 5 in 100 and a few mm is turned out of the WRX hub centre to suit the BMW hub.

Matt.

thnx for this, i have been searching for a way of braking later into corners, and being able to stop when i reach the destination !!

The engine looks awesome!
i have been researching into which engine im going to use, at the moment it looks like the gen111 will be the most power for engine weight...
But the old holden 304 is a light and small iron engine :? :?
Did you have to modify the firewall/ tunnel for your conversion? i hope you dont mind me asking...
id love to catch up some time and talk E12

it looks great- the engine looks a really neat fit!

on the braking front... you could also bolt up the 4 pot volvo calipers with those disks if you feel you need more stopping power!

good stuff!

alwaysideways I PM you with my phone #, you are welcome to call as you said you are in Perth. Firewall and tunnel didn't need any changes.

Luke what model volvo are those calipers from and do they bolt staight up ie offset and bolt spacing.
Any tips for better rear stopping power as mine does not lockup easily.

Cheers
Matt.

hi.
the calipers are of two models in their volvo range, one with twin inlets and one single. the bolt holes line up but the offset from center is too far, so prople elongate the holes to bring them 'in' to the diameter of the original rotor. They may require minimal spacing..

Also, a couple of fellas here have mentioned that the volvo caliper, being cast iron, when thrashed do take a long time to build up the heat but when hot, stay hot...
me, ill try them because they are 4-pot!

Is the engine heavy? have you considered a strut brace/ big swaybar?

why not get some wrx 4 pot callipers, or some nissan silvia/200sx or skyline 4 pots? or some used brembos would be nice, for a bit more.
i got my willwood 4 pots new on special and it wasnt too much more than it would have cost me for decade-old nissan callipers. they are unbelievably light too.
