Can't you just drill the lock out of your disclock yourself? Or go down to the plumbers merchant, get some freeze spray the plumbers use to freeze water in pipes to do leak changes, a bit of that sprayed on the lock and a good few thumps from a club hammer ought to shatter it off. Cost of the job, £10, result of driving the E21 again, Priceless!

I wish this is the lock that covers the entire wheel, it has an anti drill lock designed just so it cannot be drilled out, these are virtually indestuctable,
the locksmith has advised me it will take him up to an hour to do with a combination of drilling hammering etc etc :(

Simon,

Looks like a nice project, welcome to the club. I've just joined myself having bought a 1983 E21 two weeks ago. Just trying to find out how to load some pictures. Meanwhile, I notice you are thinking of putting in clear indicator lenses, if you do would you be interested in selling the old orange ones, I'm a bit of a purist myself and one of mine is cracked! You can pm me.

If you have the receipt and the tag with the lock number on, you can get a new key from the manufacturer.

Sadly the disklok came with an old car with only one key and no tag, so no..

Hi Rochester,
I think I may have a spare orange lense not part of a pair in the garage if thats all you need, Im sure I could pop that in a small box and into the post office :D

I have checked under all rubbers under wings etc etc all bar lifting the carpet so far its all 'rust free',
I have also detected the car has recently had a respray, so hopefully that indicates that I will find no rust...

heres hoping :D

what are the weakspots on these cars (bodywork wise) anyone?

From what I remember, around the window seals especially in the corners front and rear, rear shock towers and boot floor pan. Rear quarters and arches, and there is a common problem in the front floor pans where there is a circular disc shape under the carpet which gets rusty. This is only visible once the carpets out. Oh, and the sills!

There's probably more I've missed. Check out the E21 buyers guide article I posted in the Articles section, that should tell you most of what to look for.

Flipping Brakes!! Am I Special!!!!!!

Post by Simon »

Okay The worst of the winter outta they way (i hope) and xmas done with its time to start work on the old motor again...

Krooklock has been angle grinded off and first thing I did was to replace the servo and master cylinder from my donor car as they simply looked much better without all the rust, BUT sadly it did not fix my locking brake sydrome :(

For the first 3 miles I was very happy all seemed sweet, then the wheels started to bind GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

So next Im going to jack up the back and remove the rear wheel discs and see where that leads me, to be honest if it all looks good , ie no leaking rubbers etc then I HAVE NO IDEA

anyone reads this who has has a similar problem please let me know, but it would appear im the only person this has EVER happened too since Henry Ford brought out his first BLOODY car

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I just wanna drive the bloody thing!!!!!!!!

Have you changed the brake fluid? Water in the fluid gets hot and boils - steam at high pressure locks the brakes. Stop for a bit, steam goes back to water as it cools down, and the brakes unlock.

That's my theory anyway.

The car was left overnight and still was locked, besides I changed the fluid today and bleed it all through, so nope its not that either :(

It cannot be the master cylinder as thats been changed

The servo is operating fine, the only issue I know with these is the bag can get a hole, but it has no probs holding a vaccuum.

So theres not much left is there apart from behind the drums....

or am I missing something? I doubt!

Is it just the back wheels?? Could it be the handbrake cables?
