Hi Gary,
Nice collection you have there!
The engine number directs us to the VIN the engine was in originally (and perhaps still is), an 82 Euro RHD 323i auto built june 82.
To find the original VIN there are several options, apart from the ID tag in the left side of the boot (not on all cars), on the crossbeam underneath the dash (can only be seen with the dash removed), and perhaps if the production label is still fitted to the bottom of the rear seat.
I guess that the OTHER

Jeroen can tell you the original Baur ID #.

The VIN (7257660) can not be found.
But there are only 2 323i Automatic RHD Baur's delivered to Australia:
7257846: A74565-14
7257850: A74569-14
Both a bleu roof and bleu interior.

As it is a Euro version (RHD), could it be a british conversion, or Schneiders?

The Australian cars are also "European" spec.
But I would like to now something more about the car, the points MeesterPieter already asked for.
The chance that it is a Schneiders is very, very small.

Jeroen number one, I didnt mean to get up your skin with all that:lol:
If it makes you feel better there are at least four Matts around my neighbourhood.
This is a great format by the way. Love getting the story and background on the cars. Keep em coming!
On a side note, I do have my baur plate but is it poss for him to order a new one from BM? of course he would need to prove reg and vin but I would think you can.

Nope, it isn't possible to order a Baur-numberplate.
And I also can't give you one, I only have TC2-plates:
B41507-15 (316)
B44149-14 (323i)
B47513-13 (320i)
And I'm expecting B41651-13 (320i Automatic RHD)

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I have tried vicroads with no success and BMW Australia are not much help. The car is original Alpine White. The roof has been replaced with black material and the interior is brown. The only plate on the car confirms it as June 82. I cannot confirm that the engine is original but that is what I was told when I bought it. It is not essential to have the original VIN or the Baur build numbers but it would have been nice. I am not trying to source a Baur plate, a number would have been good.
Thanks again.

A=TC1 (B=TC2, C=TC4)
2348: counting number (2348th Baur TC1)
13: roofcolour and type. 13=Sonnenland Black. 01 or 11 is PVC Black. 14=blue, 15=brown.
MeesterPieter has a TC2 with the rare 19 roof: Sonnenland White!
The number of a TC2 always starts with a 4 or 5 (40001 was the first TC2, 50865 the last), the TC4 with a 2.
Some facts:
There were 4595 TC1 build.
About 2/3 were 320/6 (1650 pieces) and 323i (1400 pieces) (don't have the exact numbers with me, as I'm at my girlfriends place).
The rarest is the 315 with only 61 pieces.

Hi guys still trying to sort my baur out and i wonder if you can help me.

The one i just found in my TC1 was made by HELLA and it does not have a heating element in it. My E30 baur did have a heating element in it should my TC1 have 1 ?
The big Question is were do i get one, BMW, Fritz's, w&n dont have it.

You guys own some very nice Baur's! I hope to be able to make mine look half as good someday. It is currently in Atlanta, GA, but I am thinking about bringing it down to Puerto Rico next year.
The engine is using oil, so I plan to do the Eta block conversion. After I get all the mechanical issues taken care of, I would like to repaint it. If there are enough funds, I would prefer to bring it back to its original color, Kastanienrot.
BTW, any idea where top seals can be found? I know they are NLA from the usual sources, but maybe there's an enterprising person willing to reproduce them.
Here's my 320/6:
