Got shell ready for media blasting today. Apart from a couple of surface scabs it really is in remarkable condition. Once painted it'll be extensively waxoyled.

Took out the arch liners and the wings are coming off but couldn't find any rust lurking.

Alpina adjustable ARB & decambered rear beam just need painting.

Engine is going in this week along with pedal box etc. Still a way to go but progress all the same. I'm just really pleased that the shell turned out to be as good as it is.

Not yet. I removed all the brackets, clips and the servo etc. Next we're getting the engine in so we can mock up where everything is going to go and what new brackets will be needed. Once that's done it'll all be blasted.

I didn't want to say anything. :whistle In fact, that was the OE aerial cable you spotted. I deliberately went for a non sunroof car this time. I rarely ever used the one in MIB anyway.

My shell is currently off being sand blasted so should be back within the next few days. I'm properly excited about having an e21 back on the road. In fact, I'm really looking forward to getting as many of the UK cars being built, all in the same place! We have some properly nice examples here in the UK now. :boogie

Part 2 in the latest PPC magazine.

Image

Shell is back from sand blasting.

Image

This is the only bit of rust on the whole shell. (below rad) Just going to chop it out and let new metal in.

Image

Going to junk the OE fuse box & bullet fuses.

Work is moving on and hopefully the brake upgrade will soon be finished. I'm going to use a remote servo set-up from a Clio and a modified e30 pedal box. The only real issue is with the OE heater as it obstructs the linkage. It's possible an e30 one will give us a bit more room once the casing has been fettled. It will require some plastic welding to make it work though.

I really want to lose the OE fuse box and bullet type fuses. Am I right in thinking this is a straightforward job? Could I use a box taken from a later BMW or am I being too simplistic?

Image

I was thinking of going with a Motorsport front spoiler / bumper that Pristine Bodyworks make and supply. There is a pretty big weight saving to be made but I don't want to lose the chrome of the front bumper. If anyone else interested though, give me a shout.

I'm definitely starting to look forward to getting MIB2 back though.

Any day.

I am still struggling to make a definitive choice. There a VW Camper near me that's a similar shade of blue to the one I like. It has polished Empi and in twilight looks absolutely stunning. An e21 in the same shade could look awesome. I also like the fact no-one else has done a build in that shade.

It was after Top Gear a couple of weeks back when James May was in this....

Plus it's already an e21 shade anyway.

I just think it could look stunning with my rims and interior.
